This is a canada store and for Baked goods, we are only allowed to charge tax if the quantity of baked goods they buy is under 6 items. Anything over its suppose to be tax free.

I noticed there is not alot of tax setting we can configure on shopify so I am trying to look for a way to apply that change?

Can anyone help or give me suggestions?

Did you ever resolve your issue with the tax overrides? I am facing the same problem.

Hi @Patisserie,

I have checked this for you and can confirm it is not possible to set two different tax rates for products determinable by the amount of products the customer buys. Can you confirm for me which Canadian province you are based in? Do you sell your baked goods online or in person, or both?

Kind regards,

Quebec but it would be the same regardless of province since it a federal GST exemption based on quantity of normally taxable items.

Hi @Patisserie,

Okay, I see. Thank you for clarifying that. If you're selling your products in person via the Shopify POS, you can manually make a customer tax-exempt at checkout if you know they are buying enough products to not be charged tax. This would need to be done by the cashier each time but is the best workaround at present. If you make online sales, you would have to refund the customer if they have paid tax they should not have done, and you could also try reaching out to a Shopify Expert to see if any custom solution can be found.

Kind regards,

John:

What solution did you use for the GST calculation for a baked item (and similar items) where quantities are 6 or higher. I have an online pastry shop and no Shopify experts want to handle the work around. Currently, I put all taxable items as taxable and the client just pays the sales tax even though they may have bought 6 units.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Never found a solution. Tried hiring a Shopify Expert and all 3 declined to help. Did you find a solution?

Hey, there!

Denis from the Advanced Reports here.

Unfortunately, our app cannot rewrite taxes applied to the order at the moment of order creation.

But It is possible to get a report with the corrected taxes as a workaround.

So you will have an Item Lines-based report and in case the quantity of one product will be equals to 5 or greater then it is possible to apply additional value, rate, etc.

I will be glad to help you configure our app if you would like to have such a report.

Thanks for the reply Denis.

I looked at the description for your app but it seems to be more of a report creator than a tax solution. I really don't need a report after the fact - what I need is a proactive solution at the time of online purchase so that the customer does not pay sales tax needlessly.

Can you describe how your app could help me with this?

Much appreciated.

Hey, @Patisserie

You right, It cannot change the charged taxes at the moment of order creation. Sorry for this misunderstanding.

But you can use our app to get tax reports by adding custom columns with any expression you need.

In any case, I will edit my previous post in order to avoid violating the rules of the Shopify Community and so as not to confuse other customers.

Once again I apologize for the misunderstanding.
