I am debating on whether or not I should hire a bookkeeper. I started my business 15 months ago and it is really starting to pick up. I have become so busy with day to day work that I can't seem to find time to do my bookkeeping. Is a bookkeeper worth the money? Also, what is the typical rate to expect.
A book keeper is about 20$ a hour. I found this link for you in Canadian dollars. http://www.payscale.com/research/CA/Job=Bookkeeper/Hourly_Rate
What is keeping you busy? Maybe another solution is to automate more of the manual data stuff you are busy doing. ie: connecting your store right into your accounting package. Might save you time and save you hiring someone.
My company helps Shopify folks all the time. No pressure at all, but here is our site.
All the best,
The rates really depend on where you are and what is your monthly transaction volume, if you hire someone at fixed rates. If you hire on a per-hour basis, again, it depends on your location/jurisdiction.
When? When you start hating your business for doing too much bookkeeping by yourself.:)
Good luck with decision-making process.;)
Bookeeping can be pretty affordable.
There are several services that offer bookkeeping for $99/month

I got a bookkeeper when it came time for filing taxes and things were NOT in order to the point I needed them to be... I'd jump on Yelp and look for someone local so you can meet them face to face to ensure that they are a good fit for your business. Ours charges $60/hour and is far more efficient than I am. It takes her 3-4 hours every other month to keep our QuickBooks in line and is a huge relief.
