When people want to make something look more difficult than it actually is they give it an improtant sounding name like "Search Engine Optimisation".
It is a myth that you need to pay a specialist organistion to do this for you, you may have to if you don't have the time, and you are a very busy person, but chances are you are reading this because you are not busy, after all why would you be on a forum ?
Where to start
If you haven't already sign up to Google Webmaster ( free) and Google Analytics ( free), those two will tell you all you need to know about visitors to your site, and the terms they are using to find it, you will also after a coulple of weeks get to see a "keyword list" this list should be rich in the words and phrases used to find your site.
Download a free App for Shopify called "Alt Text" again it's free, this little app will apply "alt text" to all your images, so that Google knows it is an image of cushion and not a massive load of data.
If you wee starting a business on the High St the first thing you would do is advertise, so we need to do the same thing on the internet, start a Facebook page, upload products with links back to your store, get family, friends, friends of friends of friends to click on these links and explore your site, Google wants to know you are popular on the internet.
You can also submit product reviews to blogs, include a link to the product, find reviewers in your niche to review the products, they will leave links on their bogs / sites.
SEO is about presence and popularity.
Remember any changes you make are not immediate, it can take months for a single change to a keyword for Google to react.
Thank you so much for offering to do this! I would love feedback. In particular, my site loads very slow, esp from mobile phones. Just found this out as I ran a Pinterest Promotion that drove tons of traffic but my google analytics said the majority of people stayed less than 10 seconds and that the average load time for the collection I was promoting (Valentine's Day) was 48 seconds from a mobile server. (I know I wouldn't wait much longer than 10 seconds for a site to load). I recently used an app to optimize my images which helped a little but it is still scoring low in google analytics. I would love any feedback regarding speed or any other SEO related tips.
Update: I changed the code and reduced the number of items on each collection page from 48 to 24. This helped but still would love any other suggestions to increase speed and SEO. Thanks!
Thanks a ton!
