Direct traffic from asia/pacific region, 100% bounce rate

In the last 2 days i've started gaining a lot of traffic (around 40% of my total site traffic) from the Asia/pacific region, this traffic shows as 100% bounce rate and with an average session duration of 0 seconds.

Is this spam/bot traffic?

Most of my customers are UK and Ireland and a few US, I rarely get views from Asia normally.

Hi Natasha,

I want to address a few things.

  • How much traffic is 40% (are you talking about 40% of a few hundred users per day, or is it thousands?)
  • What time is the traffic hitting your website?
  • Is this data coming through Google Analytics, or a 3rd party service provider?
  • Are you running any paid advertisements in the Asia/Pacific region?

It is normal for a website to receive bot traffic. The quantity of bot traffic is the problem.

I'd be happy to discuss further if you can provide some additional details.

Best regards,

Matthew Herchel

Hiya!

By the end of the evening yesterday it had dropped, it was 49 views out of 195.

These figures were from the shopify dashboard, however when I checked google analytics it shows the same amount of views (195) But doesn't show any asia/pacific region on the map or the location list.

Also, no promotions anywhere except UK and Ireland!

Thank you

This is an accepted solution.

Hi Natasha,

This activity is completely normal. I would refer to using Google Analytics
as the primary source for analytics data.
For smaller stores I tend to ignore all direct traffic as customers will
not know who you are. The likelihood of a customer typing your URL in to a
search bar is unlikely (<5%) of all viable traffic.

Can you share the URL for your store?

Hey Matthew,

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it. I completely agree, although I'm popular on Etsy, my website is fairly new so I thought it was a bit strange that I was getting so much direct traffic!

My store is www.nhbyhand.com
