Does anyone have any tips for this?? I feel ive been cheap but now i really want to see what advertising can do

This last ad i did i spend about $125 i saw more traffic to my site but no sales from it, is there a sweet spot number that tends to generate sales? $300 , $500, more?

I really want to get my brand out there, my biggest issue at the moment is putting professional photos on my site to create a trusting look/branding.

Congrats on your shop. Your wesbite looks slick and easy to navigate with high res images and clean descriptions. One thing i've identified- customer reviews are not represented correctly. Ex: https://www.desiredempire.com/collections/jackets/products/grey-black-fleece-jacket I was not sure if its a all 5 star or if it is not reviewed at all. It's minor UI thing though.

Coming back to your question, Ad/Email marketing can be tricky if you don't niche down your customer segments. You can easily burn your pockets if the ads are not targeting your customer audience. If you already have customer emails (or) leads I would suggest to try out this app(there's a free credit on it) to get your customer interests https://apps.shopify.com/customer-insights. Once you know your customer interests then you can segment them appropriately on facebook ad campaign (or) even send the emails out appropriately based on their interests. This can help you to target similar audience.

There is no sweet spot as such when it comes to spending on Fb ads.

Sure, you can get more clicks and a few sales here and there by spending more.

But, if you haven't optimized your landing page to target people coming via ads then not only you are losing those people but also wasting your money on ads.

What I mean by optimizng the landing page?

I assume you are sending people directly to your store through fb ads. That's not a clever strategy.

Asking people to buy straightaway when they have just heard about your brand and products is like digging your own grave.

What I suggest you should do instead is to create an engaging content (an article) around your product (For Ex. - Diana Choker). Send the people via fb ads to this article. The people who are interested in Diana Choker will click on it.

Also, install email subscription forms above, below and sidebar of the article. Offer a free ebook (related to Diana Choker, again) to entice people to sign up to get the book.

Once you have 100ish people on your list, send them through an email funnel of 5-6 emails where the first few emails will build trust and awareness before the final email will ask for the sale.

This way you can improve your conversions significantly without losing the visitors coming to your store.

I would recommend to investigate more on your target audience. It's really a trial and error process and it does take time and learning. HERE (https://www.facebook.com/blueprint/courses/category/advanced-best-practices) are some free Facebook Blueprint courses that would help.

Also, try marketing tools that automate the process to advertise on Facebook most efficiently. Hey,

There is no such fixed amount but you can always approximate.

Firstly, you need to have a target number of conversions for your campaign.

This article gives average CTR, CPC, Conversion rate and CPA across different categories such as clo...

Select the category to which your shop belongs to.

Also, optimal frequency for Ads is 1 to 2. Assuming the frequency to be 2 for maximum budget

You can calculate using 
 

Target number of conversions * 2 (Frequency) * CTR * Conversion rate * CPA

Take CTR, Conversion rate and CPA from reference article.

Cool post! Thanks for writing, glad cpa has come up a bunch.

As for cpa, scale is the key. It sounds like a buzzword that’s been played out, but scale is a general nod to growing larger. To which most ecommerce companies aspire. Now, scaling your brand’s cost per acquisition is not necessarily a good thing, as cpa increasing often means margins decreasing. However, the advantage to having a higher cpa is, your company has more room to experiment. And with that increased spend, you’re likely to earn more customers.

This might sound like a basic question but have you checked how your competitors are advertising on Facebook. 

I mean in terms of the type of ads, are they running image ads, slide show or video?

To spend $125 without a conversion seems crazy unless this was split tested across different ads etc..

I can probably share some ad examples if you let me know which niche you are in.
