Google Tag Manager Integration not working properly

Hello All,

I've installed GTM in one of my shopify site but I'm not getting any data in my GTM account.

I've added the <noscript> and <script> tag/code of GTM in BODY and HEAD section in the main theme.liquid file. Again I've added the data layer and both <noscript> , <script> code in all other pages to setup GTM dynamically.

When I checked it with Tag Assistant (Chrome Extension) by Google then I found that in my main Homepage there's no error but in other pages there is showing Multiple installations of GTM.

Also there is error showing "Tag not fired through GTM"

So basically I couldn't do anything in my GTM account.

My site is https://favelaclothing.com/

Extension using for checking : https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tag-assistant-by-google/kejbdjndbnbjgmefkgdddjlbokphdefk?h...

Any help will be much appreciated

Looking forward to help from you all

Thanks and Regards,

Dipendu

Hey Dipendu!

I'm Daryoush, on the winning Guru team! :)

Fantastic idea! The Google Tag Manager (GTM) can only be used if you have a Shopify Plus account, because the code is embedded in the checkout.liquid file which is unlocked for our Plus merchants. There is also no custom cross domain issues, because the checkout can be hosted on your own domain with a Plus account. On non-Plus accounts, you can add code in the "Additional scripts" box which is located in "Settings" -> "Checkout" and used for the "Thank you" page, however the GTM code requires access to the checkout.

I hope this helps, have a lovely day!

Cheers,
Daryoush

Hi Dipendu,

Google Tag Manager can be added to your store and checkout.shopify.com. You do not need Shopify Plus for it. I use this successfully for several client stores to do custom analytics work.

Simply add the following inside your Additional Google Analytics Javascript section of Shopify:

(function(w,d,s,l,i){w[l]=w[l]||[];w[l].push({'gtm.start':
new Date().getTime(),event:'gtm.js'});var f=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],
j=d.createElement(s),dl=l!='dataLayer'?'&l='+l:'';j.async=true;j.src=
'//www.googletagmanager.com/gtm.js?id='+i+dl;f.parentNode.insertBefore(j,f);
})(window,document,'script','dataLayer','GTM-XXXXXX');

Replace GTM-XXXXXX with your GTM code.

Be careful of when tags fire on what pages as you don't want duplicate hits coming from Shopify's standard GA setup and then GTM.

@Josh_Uebergang

Tried your solution but it does not work anymore..

See the image I uploaded...

On the other hand the tag fires on all other pages, including cart.

Just on the checkout - nothing...

@CiprianSo that is because Shopify removed the option of adding any other code in the Additional GA scripts, BUT the actual GA code. GTM is not GA code, and this was a hack to accomplish having GTM on Checkout pages.

Upgrade to Shopify Plus and you'll have the ability to change Checkout pages as well

But I have seen many shops that, based on the code added in there, change the way their checkout looks.

How do they accomplish this? ;)
