I am devloping a store and my client notice that the dev link in on Google Serach. I saw this link https://help.shopify.com/manual/promoting-marketing/seo/hide-a-page-from-search-engines , but my question is: what would be the handle to target the entire store?
Why not just enable the storefront lock? That will have a much better result with far less effort.
Thanks Jason, but that's not what I asked for. I have the lock enable already, but a simple awnser for you: Because I do not want to display any results on Google. Just by putting a lock, wont hide any results on Google, which will show sensitive information such as meta tags (title, decription, etc.)

It will. Google can't index content it's unable to access. If you want to hide the content on the password page as well just edit the template to add the noindex tags, or adjust the content in that template file to remove content. When the lock is enabled the sitemap is also inaccessible.
You also have the option of adding no index tags into your theme.liquid should the password page be to blunt of a move.
atopetek - What are you needing?
Hi Jason, I need to hide my whole store from search engines. I've added 'noindex, nofollow' tags in both layouts folder files, but it seems my store is still appearing when I search for it in Google.
The specific tag is this one: <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow">
Please let me know if it's OK and if I'm forgetting to do something else.
I have the same question, and true the password protection does not protect it from the google indexing... I still find all dev store contents being indexed... I also dont want the password protect page to ask for email signups - I simply want it locked, blank with password and captcha ... like the OP, I don't want ANY data shown about the store on a dev site
Have you try to put noindex nofollow code in Shopify store? <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW">
Using this syntax, it helps to hide the store from Search Engine. Hopefully, it helps to you.
