Hi,
How to stop the product created date from appearing in Google results. It appears under the product description field and somehow affects the rankings as well. And it is happening only for selected products.
Thanks.
Hi Mayank, Eshwar
As Jody mentioned, it was not advisable to stop showing product update date on the google search. My answer is an extension to what you have asked about updating the "product modified date".
This is an schema of your website's sitemap, which can be accessible through https://pujayagna.com/sitemap.xml
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
<sitemapindex xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">

This is the parent sitemap linking to additional sitemaps for products, collections and pages as shown below. The sitemap can not be edited manually, but is kept up to date in real time.

To update individual product listing you need to update this product sitemap: https://pujayagna.com/sitemap_products_1.xml?from=411371956&to=284748873775
FYI Sitemaps are always being cached for about an hour. If you make any changes to your shop (e.g. delete a page or product, or change a handle that affects the URL) then the sitemap will get regenerated.
So it's not at all advisable to update this manually since it will break the flow. But it if you want to go ahead, you can do it via Admin API: https://help.shopify.com/api/reference/product#update
You can also follow this trail, people who are having the same issues:

Hi Vishal, so basically, we need to do create an API.
Please see my website link on this page:
https://www.google.com/search?q=maha+rudra+puja&ei=nNdpWr7kBY-SvQTkl7OoBQ&start=0&sa=N&biw=1366&bih=...
You will notice, it shows the date (Feb 26, 2015) before the "meta description", it is the date when product was first created) and I can't locate this date in the product sitemap.
https://pujayagna.com/sitemap_products_1.xml?from=411371956&to=284748873775
Infact, the product sitemap gives the last modified date for this product as "2017-12-26T11:09:58+05:30".
So, is there a way I can hide the Product creation date from appearing in Google search results.
Thanks.
Yes, I have checked, that's bad. Because it seems like the product is of Feb 26 '15. Creating and managing API for just 1 product will not be the right way.
I think a simple way here is to create a new product with all the description and details. And use canonical and 301 redirections on the older one to this new product page. And then unpublish the old product.
