Image names for SEO

I'm trying to rename all my images according to best SEO practices. I'm finding that my theme is appending information to all images:

Will this hurt my SEO?

Occasionally, it seem to be even more involved, looking like this:

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Elise,

This won't have a bad impact on your SEO.

The ALT text is actually more important for SEO than the file name itself. Here's a Shopify article about it: https://help.shopify.com/manual/products/product-variant-images

I'd agree that extra bits of gibberish on a URL will not impact what Google things an image is about. Google probably uses the URL, the images alt text and text from the pages the image is on to determine what an image is about. URL is probably the least significant factor.
