I recently made my first post on Reddit to try to expand my store's reach, and since I made the post my store's traffic has been far higher than it used to be. However, only a limited number of the sessions are appearing as coming from Reddit, while most of the new sessions appear as direct referrals. Of the 39 sessions I have had today, only 5 are social (only 3 of which are from Reddit) and the other 34 are direct referrals. What is this direct traffic and where is it coming from? Is it genuine visitors or is it a bot/crawler? Any help is appreciated!
Direct traffic means that the URL is entered manually in a browser address bar, from a bookmark, from an email, offline documents, sometimes organic search traffic, may also be flagged as direct.
When posting links, I recommend using UTM tracking. This will provide you better insight when sharing links, where they come from.
Thank you for your help! I have set up UTM tracking and hopefully, that will help me. The other question I have involves the average session duration. Any of the sessions from Reddit or direct referrals have an average session duration of 00:00:00. I know that people may be just leaving my site, but it seems strange that they're not even staying for a couple seconds. As I mentioned earlier, could this be from a bot/crawler? Thank you!
