I'm trying to optimise our shop SEO and was recommended the following from a SEO expert;
Recommended Page Modifications:
· URL: Change to https://www.holdbreaker.com/collections/bluewater-climbing-ropes
· Breadcrumb: Change to ‘Home > Bluewater Climbing Ropes’
· H1: Change to ‘Buy BlueWater Climbing Ropes’
I've been searching everywhere how to change make these changes (making Breadcrumb different to H1 tag) - without any luck. Can anyone in here help?
Don't change a URL unless there is a compelling reason to do so. What did you do to the old URL? Has it just 404ed and thrown away all the credibility it had gained over time?
Shopify does not provide indexable breadcrumbs for products, as far as I can tell. They are only on product pages that relate to collections, and those pages canonicalise themeselves out of the index (for a good reason, they are duplicates). So that is mute in regard to SEO. You want your breadcrumb to make sense for your users.
The H1 change is purely to rank for people looking using the term "buy". I'd personally think of visitors before keyword stuffing. Would a visitor like that heading? I personally go for headings that clearly explain what the page is about. I think what you have does that.
It woudl be nice if the heading could be different to the breadcrumb text. Sometimes I want a more verbose heading.
Your SEO expert did not mention setting title tags or meta descriptions?
Thank you for your reply. No, the links hasn't 404ed - theyve been 301ed - just done a re-direct so we don't lose the credibility it's gained.
We've also been told that our H1 doesn't work, I've looked at our liquid with the little knowledge I've got and it seem it says that our title tag is our H1 tag, so I don't understand - could you maybe look at it and see if there're any change we need to make.
Or do you know of any links that could help us with this?
I'm finding this very confusing - any info you can provide will be gratefully appreciated.
Your products have the correct h1 usage for their heading.
Title tags are different things. You control that via the SEO section of an item and it influences the text shown in the search results.
Your home page has no real heading, or textual content. So it has no h1 (there is one in your twitter widget though). I encourage my clients to say something on their home page, and say it under a heading (using an h1).
