SEO Keyword Research

7 0 1

KEYWORD RESEARCH. Ok, total newbie here. I want to blog for my shopify store to improve my SEO. I've been reading about it and I'm a little overwhelmed by all the tools and a little lost. I can't seem to access the Google Keyword Planner. Every time I go to it, google just asks me to set up an ad. Is there another free tool I can use to figure out which keywords from the list I've brainstormed are worth pursuing? Also, would like to better understand what metrics I need to be looking for when figuring out which keywords to pursue so a link to an insightful article or advice would be helpful here too. TIA!

Hey, @fialuna!

Thanks for reaching out today. From my experience, the Google Keyword Planner typically gives off the impression that you need to have an ad set up to use the tool. I have not personally tried this, but there is a very useful guide here that illustrates how you can use it without creating an ad. It appears that it's entirely possible to do so, Google just makes it a little difficult to access the tool without paying.

All in all, there are some terrific recommendations and tips on using their keyword planner in that guide. Alternatively, there is a great keyword tool alternative called Keywords Everywhere. It is a browser extension available for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

Feel free to check out our SEO Resources Guide to learn more about how you can optimize your Shopify store.

Let me know if that helps! If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

Hi fialuna,

There are many great free tools out there to do keyword research. Here is a great guide to set it up:

Alternatively, you can also use Neil Patel's tool called

Great paid tools are Ahrefs and SEMrush. They both offer 7-14 day trials for either free or small fees, you can take a look here:

When pursuing keywords, you want to target them according to what your content is about. If you're selling something, you want transaction keywords, however in your case, you're wanting to start a blog, so you want to target informational keywords such as "how to" "top 5" etc.

Hi Fialuna,

It is nice to see you take initiatives to make your products visible and top the SERPs. Let me give you very concise advice.

You can use Ubersuggest to check for the keywords to be used in your blog pieces and articles.

Some keyword metrics you need to focus upon are:

Search Volume: The number of expected searches for a keyword in a particular time period.

Search Difficulty: This metric helps you to know how difficult it would be to rank on the SERPs for that particular keyword.

Paid Difficulty: This means that if you create an ad campaign for a keyword then how difficult would it be to rank for that keyword.

Cost Per Click (CPC): This is an advertising model where the advertises charges for each click you receive.

Hope this helps. To know more you can Click Here.

I reviewed your website briefly, looks very nice. I would suggest using a free tool like to generate keyword ideas. You dont always have to go for the most popular keywords, consider using long-tailed keywords that are unique to you. Long-tailed keywords will most likely improve your Google rankings.

I recommend using SEO APPs such as flare, which regularly and verifiably submit your store content to major Search Engines such as Google and Bing.

Hope this was helpful.
