SEO Optimization and Design Help

Hello,

we are working with an SEO company and we were told that our main site needs to have more text, as we are mainly image based on our site. The one way we thought of doing this was by removing some of the images after the slide show and replacing it with the text [ as seen here http://imgur.com/Nj1YysP ].  Our full website can be seen here at www.KAVUT.com.  The issue with removing an image and replacing it with text is that I am unsure how to do this.  Maybe adding tables?

Or would adding this text elsewhere be a better idea? I know meta keywords can be helpful, but that is not really for SEO purposes these days. If you have any ideas or suggestions of what you think would work better for SEO purposes I am more then willing to listen as we are pretty new to SEO optimization for the website. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Below is the relevant code of what we are thinking of changing on the main page of our site.

  {% comment %} Promotion, Blog {% endcomment %}
  {% if settings.home_bottom_banner_show or settings.home_blog_show %}
  <div class="home-blog">
  <div class="container">
   <div class="home-promotion-blog row">
      {% if settings.home_bottom_banner_show %}
      <div class="home-bottom_banner_wrapper col-md-8">
        <div id="home-bottom_banner" class="home-bottom_banner">
          <a href="/collections/asherali-knopfer"><img src="{{ 'home_promotion_Asherali.jpg' | asset_url }}" alt="Ashereli" /></a>
        </div>
      </div>
      <div class="home-bottom_banner_wrapper col-md-16">
        <div id="home-bottom_banner" class="home-bottom_banner">
          <a href="/collections/yvonne-leon"><img src="{{ 'home_promotion_Yvonne.jpg' | asset_url}}" alt="Yvonne" /></a>
        </div>
      </div>
      <div class="home-bottom_banner_wrapper col-md-24">
        <div id="home-bottom_banner" class="home-bottom_banner">
          <a href="/collections/maison-martin-margiela-line-12-fine-jewellery"><img src="{{ 'home_promotion_Margiela.jpg' | asset_url}}" alt="Margiela" /></a>
        </div>
      </div>
      <div class="home-bottom_banner_wrapper col-md-16">
        <div id="home-bottom_banner" class="home-bottom_banner">
          <a href="/collections/maria-black-fine-jewelry"><img src="{{ 'home_promotion_MariaBlack.jpg' | asset_url}}" alt="MariaBlack" /></a>
        </div>
      </div>
      <div class="home-bottom_banner_wrapper col-md-8">
        <div id="home-bottom_banner" class="home-bottom_banner">
          <a href="/collections/melanie-georgacopoulos-m-g-tasaki"><img src="{{ 'home_promotion_MGTasaki.jpg' | asset_url}}" alt="MGTasaki" /></a>
        </div>
      </div>
      <div class="home-bottom_banner_wrapper col-md-24">
        <div id="home-bottom_banner" class="home-bottom_banner">
          <a href="/collections/ginette_ny"><img src="{{ 'home_promotion_GinetteNY.jpg' | asset_url}}" alt="GinetteNY" /
</a>

For your homepage just be sure to do your title, description, and header tags.  A website like yours will get traffic to it's homepage from branding.

To pull in search engine traffic you should focus on your subpages.  You can add optimized content to a new subpage and optimize the title, description, and header tags to target a specific keyword.  The beauty of this is that you can set up a ton of subpages with just content and an image and pull in loads of traffic from the search engines.  I've done this will all my websites and all my clients websites.  I'm extremely happy with the outcome for my own websites as well as theirs :D

And when I say to add content to a sub page, I don't mean your blog.  Blogging is great and an awesome way to bring in traffic, so keep doing that.  But add subpages that are static and not attached to your blog so that the URL is shorter.

Example of blog post:  http://www.kavut.com/blogs/blog/diamond-earings

Example of sub page: http://www.kavut.com/diamond-earings

By doing this you will have a shorter URL and nothing will be cut off when google spiders (crawls) your pages and indexes it.

Google has come a long way from "you have to have some text with keywords on your home page for us to rank you higher" formula. The search engine is far more smarter now than ever before. I'd not remove the image if I was you. The layout of kavut looks great as it is right now.

In addition to Thomas's advice, try to get backlinks to your sub-pages and to your homepage. Relevant, high-quality backlinks are still one of the best ways to get your ranking notched up.

Backlinks can be had from a variety of places (other influential bloggers in your industry, websites that have resource pages linking to shops, social media shares for social signals, and guest-posting on various blogs / publications).

The homepage is the first thing that most visitors see typically. In general, I wouldn't base homepage design decisions with SEO as the priority.

Have you or your SEO company considered making dedicated pages for SEO terms, while leaving the homepage as the brand page? Ideally, you want a good percent of visitors to know you so well that they look for your site instead of for generic search terms.
