Working with SEO a lot since 2007 I see Shopify is a quite good platform optimized for SEO. In nowdays, it's more about the mixes between the content and technical part. I've done the research related to SEO and Shopify via Shopify SEO qucik overview and solution article.
Hey there, it's possible to rank high with Shopify SEO. Here’s a secret that SEO consultants don’t want you to know: it’s really not that hard to do, but it does require a bit of a time investment.
Here's what I've done in the past that's taken stores from a couple hundred views to thousands of views:
With this method, I was able to beat companies like Amazon, Macy's, L'Oreal and more. This was just a high level overview, but if you want to learn more, check out this post I wrote: Shopify SEO: How to Hack Organic Search Traffic. Everything I mention in this post is what I've done to drive organic SEO growth.

Hi, there are a few crucial elements for SEO, and a bunch of other stuff. The trick is to be clear on the most important search phrases that you want to be found for in free search, aka keywords. Once you have listed those phrases or keywords you use that to do the SEO like page copy and the headers and page title etc. Then there's all the stuff like SSLs, load speed, backlinks etc, all the tech stuff. Fortunately, Shopify is super easy for SEO. I'm just writing a DIY SEO Made Simple paper for people who want their website to do better in search but don't have the budget to hire a SEO expert and are not expert themselves, I can show you the beta version if you'd like - email me email@example.com
All the best
Just contributing to this post because SEO ideas are always fun!
Me personally I like content marketing for eCommerce. It's something that I've seen under utilized with most clients.
For example, one of my stores we sell water bottles. We wrote a blog post about why to use reusable water bottles. After a few months (putting 0 marketing effort into it) it now generates steady organic search traffic every month.
Creative content in your niche works great on a few levels.
