The mystery of the Thank you page URL

Hi all,

I am trying to set up Facebook Advertising Conversion tracking. My logic is that purchase = goal, so it makes sense to tailor your advertising to accomplishing this one thing [for my store, at this stage.]

In order to track any conversion, you need the URL, or unique part thereof, for the relevant page. For example, the page that gets the customer to enter they payment details contains "payment_method", so I can track that nice and easy. For purchases, I need the URL (or unique part thereof) for the Thank you page. How do I get the URL/ unique & repeatable part of the Thank you Page URL, so that I can use FB advertising properly? Maybe it's "order_complete" or "thank_you" - I am sure somebody somewhere knows. I know this question has been asked before, but there wasn't a usable answer.

The same problem arises when trying to set up Google Analytics Goals and Funnels. This otherwise helpful document from Shopify once again presupposes you know your Thank you page URL.

I have considered testing it, but my product is quite expensive, so I would lose a ton of fees.

I use the Brooklyn theme and don't usually get in under the hood too much.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

xo

OK, so I am aware I am speaking to myself here, but hey, I figured it out, so I will share.

My items cost approx 200 usd, so it wasn't feasible to test it. So I password-protected my store, dropped the price to 1 cent and paid for it. It brought me to the magical URL which contained thank_you

I hope this helps some poor soul in the future

Hi Martina,

A good way to find these things out is by checking pages in Google Analytics. Filter by "thank" and you should pick up that thankyou page.

If you want to track form submits as well, they contain "contact_posted=true"

BTW, next time you need to try a test order can make a $199.99 discount coupon for yourself and use it during checkout so you don't have to password protect your store :)

Hi Martina,

I suggest you read my guide to understand how to setup analytics in Shopify and understand how it works: https://www.digitaldarts.com.au/google-analytics-and-shopify-for-splendid-data

The checkout process uses virtual urls in analytics so what you see in the URL is not always what you should use. What Tony suggested will not work in some cases like the thank you pagee because of that. Any custom conversion tracking that's not G Analytics, will likely need to use the actual URL in which case regex is the best because the URL structures change.

@Martina, I am afraid "thank_you" does not record accurate data. I have posted this at https://ecommerce.shopify.com/c/shopify-discussion/t/what-is-the-thank-you-page-url-for-facebook-cus...

Since I see that your post was a few months ago, can you share your results with us?

Thank you!

I just created a special 100% off coupon code for my store for me to do test purchases.

Then I disable the coupon when I'm done.
