Hello everyone, 

I️ would love to share my thoughts that I️ can summarize in this next question. What is the best social media platform to market/ sell your online skincare products? 

 My experience is limited to what i've experienced. Any feedback or recommendations will be highly appreciated!

Recently, we’ve launched our online skin care brand Odalisque California www.odalisquecalifornia.com. Our products are Cruelty Free skin care products made up of natural minerals and salts extracted from the Dead Sea in Jordan. 

After spending a little less than $5k on paid SM advertising, the results are indicating that 100% of our sales is coming ORGANICALLY from google and ZERO from paid advertising! We have repeated customers and in general our customers love our products and they always have good things to say about it and they also refer new customers all the time. 

In summary, for those who did not read all of the above, I️ believe that time and smart content is the key for success! And that spending money on paid advertising is an essential and long term ROI cost.

I️ would be more than happy to read other experiences and thoughts.

Spending 5k and not getting sales, sounds to me like the advertising efforts have not been setup correctly. Or not the right platform. There are allot of different platforms, from my experience Adwords Shopping Ads are the best, than followed with some Facebook remarketing.

The buy intent is extremely high with Google Shopping as it is specificly for people searching for products. Than if you setup an effective campaign, you can get sales.

The issue with selling your own brand, is brandawareness, so investing in getting your brand known is very expensive. And as you say, you need to look at longer term value. The money you spend today, can have an effect of up to a year or more depending on the aggresiveness of your advertisign.

With brandawareness, it is maybe a good idea to advertise on as many different platforms as possible at the same time. So that your brand is at the forefront of the customers mind.

Make up a plan with how much you want to spend per month, than look at how much you can get out of each marketplace / ad platform and analyze the successes.

Before you do all this, research your competitor. See what they do and replicate there successes.

Instagram is the channel to target. I see that you have a lot of followers on Instagram. That's a good thing. But, as you said, content really matters. According to 80:20 rule of social media marketing, only 20% of your posts marketing your products and rest should be engaging content which may or may not be related to your products, for e.g posting a customer review of your products. With Orangetwig you can post different kinds of posts like review posts, tag a friend or sales posts.

Instasuccess toolkit is a complete solution for your Instagram. You will be able to find the right hashtags for your posts and even make your posts clickable. 

Check out Qrator. It lets you find and organize interesting content from around the web. You can schedule these posts on social media for your followers.

Since you're running ads, one of the important thing to consider is the landing page you are driving traffic from ads. The message from your ads should match the message on the landing page, so your customers are not mislead by the ads. Thinking further I'd suggest you to have a look at Google Analytics thing like "Bounce Rate" and "Exit pages". The first thing will let you know how well your ads message match the landing page, and the second thing will let you know from which page your visitor abandon your site, so you can optimize the content of that page. 

In summary, you have to optimize the landing page, and the best if you do it with Shopify page builders apps from Shopify marketplace.

 

With the organic traffic showing the positive ROI, well it's the correct thing. Skincare products work the best with the products review, but it takes really a lot of time for making your Shopify store SEO friendly. If you go that way, you need to invest a lot of time in building hi quality and the most important is genuine content. The trust is the key factor with skincare products and it takes the time to build it.

I agree with others: Instagram. 

 

 Instagram isn't the only or even the best marketing platform. However, it is the one that will give you the biggest RLI starting out. 

 You can spend just a little time or money and get shoes returns pretty quickly. If you know what you're doing. 

 

I completely sold out of my first product in less than two months using only Instagram.

Hello Hamdallah,

it sounds like you have a lot of passion for your product, and I think this is a great way to start. I bet you find it easier to engage with your customers and create content because you care. When it comes to advertising, each channel is very different. On Facebook, people aren't usually in "buying mode", so it's a good way to retarget them for something they actually searched for in the past. Google AdWords I believe is the most direct way to advertise and can absolutely have short ROI, but you need to know more or less the "exact" multiple ways people search for your product. 

I'd say keep your current customers very close and happy, and try to understand the reasons why they bought your products. Everyone has a different perspective and reason. Use that to find keywords to advertise on, especially on Google. If you're in a specific niche, the cost of ads will be lower.

Instagram by far. Our entire business has grown from Instagram and primarily from the athletes we partner with (influencers) that use their large reach. Its critical to only post high quality, professional images and at least once per day. The new story feature is very useful now as well, esspecially the swipe up feature.

I agree, but at the same time, I think FB is making the process of reaching out to people organically through(FB, IG) so hard. That makes sense! why would they let you reach people organically while they can make tons of money?!

I was doing Adwords, I spent around 1k on AdWords in less than a month, with zero sales and its so expensive.
