Hello everybody, I would appreciate some help cracking this:

According to this Google support side in order to make use of Remarketing with Google Analytics, I need to update my GA Analytics tracking code by replacing a single line.

Now, since we all use Shopify we don't need add any tracking code yourselves Shopfiy does this for us. Under the preference panel I can add additional Java script to the code but I cannot modify the code itself.

Has anybody found a workaround for this? How do you guys use Google Analytics Remarketing?

I will update this with my own progress and am grateful for any help in he mean time.

Thanks in advance!

I have tried adding the code to the theme.liquid head tag and removing the UA from the shopify preference tab. This works but is not reporting conversions in GA anymore.

Has anyone else tried this?

I am into re-marketing (have done a lot of it on other sites but not shopify before) but have only just added my code so give it a couple of days and I'll know if it works .. I opened up theme.liquid in Layouts > theme editor and just added the code before </head>. I am guessing that doing this adds the same code to every page .. we'll see!

ps I did not remove my UA code.

What is url of your websites? And is it not reporting Goals in Analytics, or Conversions in AdWords to be specific?

It strikes me that since the idea of Shopify's "Google Analytics UA# Box" in the admin panel is to save us work, that the code that is injected as a result just needs updating by the dev team to take into account these new developments...

I suggest everyone log a support ticket to request this.

According to this article, the code provided is compatible with the traditional syntax that we use for Google Analytics. That being said, declaring that a variable has a different value will overwrite what was originally declared. So pasting that one line of code into the Additional GA Javascript field should have the intended consequence. Untested.

... but we shouldn't have to. If Shopify is providing this on a "you plug in the account number, we do the rest" basis, then what is "done" should always be kept up to date. No?

Hi PJ!

You should be fine as long as your google list is good. Google will not remarket to lists with less than 100 users I believe.

Anyone else using google rue marketing? Please post as well.
