(link)love is in the air...

With so many excellent and lovely shops at shopify, what better time than spring to spread some link love to your favourites. I am proposing this: let's give each other some SEO help by posting a link on our link pages (or wherever) to our favourite neighboring shopify stores. I know i have been wanting to link to some of you for months now, but i never get around to doing it. So i made it into a group activity. :) The idea is not to create many reciprocal exchanges just for the sake of it (although that's cool, too), but to link to fellow shopify sites that you like and really recommend to your users. Basically, i am envisioning this thread as a pool of sites that you pick and choose from. So, post in this thread if you're up for the shopify community linkfest. Your post should include * your shop name: * URL: * link text if you prefer some added keyword goodness: I'll start: * shop name: Folkology * URL: http://www.folkology.com * link text: Authentic Hungarian cross stitch, fabric and other folk crafts (but i also love it when people come up with their own link text based on their experience with my site)

I love your idea Kati, and have thought of it in the past too; would do my li’l business a lot of good, frankly, ..but I’m not too sure anyone here would want to have links to or from a sex toy shop, no matter how cool :) – so I’ll leave you guys to it.

(unless you really mean it about love in the air :)

Linking to other sites within Shopify to help other merchants in this family, would be a good idea, but unless we can get tobi to create a list of all the shops that use Shopify and identify what type of merchandise they offer, then selecting shops to link with, may be hard to do.

There is the “Launched!” part of the forum that you can showcase your shop in, but that’s not all that helpful to have to look through all of those now listed. It probably isn’t that complete, and often, you’d have to open each shop to figure out what is offered. If you want to link to shops with content that might relate to what you are selling, then selecting them through a current available list would make the task much easier.

tobi probably can’t create a list from his records, but perhaps just creating an empty form for any Shopify merchant to add to, would work fine. Just shop name, URL, and merchandise type or varieties offered, should be all that’s needed, perhaps country may be a consideration also.

Ken,

There is something around the corner from the Shopify guys. In the meantime you can also check out www.shopify.org

Ken, yes, the Launched forum is a start to pick links from, but i find that i am lazy and forget to add my favourites to the Links page from there. The idea here is to remind ourselves to add those links and to give it a community feel.

I guess everyone does this differently, but a list of hundreds of shops from Tobi wouldn’t really help me because i am looking for much more when linking to a store than what can be said within any bulk list.

Dan:

I took a look at shopify.org, and thought it was a good layout with the categories listed like that. The only problem though, most of the categories showed no content, so that didn’t help. Clicking on the link tabs did provide a longer list of member stores, but I wouldn’t start by going down those lists to find similar content.

I don’t understand why these links aren’t automatically coordinated with the category list, unless it is just something the store would need to update to be current. That might take a reminder from the site to do this update.

Kati:

Of course a list with hundreds to choose from would be a lot to deal with, but if it was broken down as this category list is, it would make it much simpler to select key sites that may be associated with our own.

Dan says there is something around the corner, so perhaps by the time I open, we’ll have something more to work with.

Hi Ken,

shopify.org is a directory listing of shopify stores that someone here put together. Stores are added to the directory by the shop owners so if they haven’t added there store, then it won’t be listed. There is no affiliation between shopify.org and Shopify.com/Jaded Pixel or myself.

I don’t know what Shopify/Jaded pixel has around the corner, or when it will be released, but from what I have read around it will be some sort of market place!
