Feedback on my store - Knittin Knot

Hello Folks,

I started a women's clothing and jewelry store in late October of 2019. Knittin Knot. It has been a pretty steep learning curve and I have made several radical changes since its inception. I only use US wholesalers after my one and only sale was a return because the product did not match the images. Recently, I have changed the color and imagery of the store. Different color buttons, moved "Our Story" to a highly visible location. Changed the homepage banner image. Added trust seals on every product page and a few other minor details.

I have gotten positive feedback from the stores Facebook page that the site is easy to navigate, but no sales.

My current Facebook ad, #12  or so, is running a carousel ad of my clothing collection and jewelry collection to very broad audience. I've gathered about 14 link clicks in 36 hours. But no sales. Customers are adding items to their cart, but I have not even gotten an abandoned checkout.

I also added one pop-up for a 15% discount (margins don't allow for very much more) and no one has taken it.

I'm fairly certain at this point its not the store, but the products. I really need some feedback. It would be immensely appreciated!

Thank you,

Hey Knittin Knot,

The logo alongwith the main menu and sidelinks should be shifted slightly upwards in order to avoid the unwanted white space on the header top. The central banner should also be shifted accordingly. Other peculiar points to be noted are as follows:

  1. Favicon is missing, which is quite crucial for site identification.
  2. I would love to see an Account login/sign-in system, as it is a must for an ecommerce.
  3. The login, when added, should be placed beside the search bar, cart, and currency converter for a more systematic header look.
  4. Newsletters should be added to the footer for the latest updates on discounts, promotions etc.
  5. You should add terms and conditions like terms of service, privacy policy etc if any as these also help in building search engine content.
  6. The footer needs modification. The order of arrangement of footer elements should be as follows: Terms and conditions, contact us anytime and newsletter.
  7. Bestsellers need to be added to depict site peculiarity.
  8. Discounts need to be given for better customer engagement.
  9. Reviews need to be added below each product to help the customer decide better.
  10. You can also install one of the most popular app Growwave which is all in one marketing platform that helps store owners increase conversions with ease.
  11.  Finally, I would also recommend replacing the default search with an advanced search like Sparq which allows synonyms, advanced custom tag filters, spelling correction, and other such features. Visitors with search are high intent users and their conversion rate is higher than normal users.
Check out the features live here.
You can use Sparq free trial for as many products in your store. After the trial period, you can enjoy with Sparq’s Free Starter Plan for upto 1000* products.

Hope the store performs very well after improvement and optimization.

Neha :)

Hi Ian,

I've taken a look at your store. I've seen many people struggle with their first stores because of various aspects of the business they have to manage (from web design to promotion tactics).

And to be honest, your website looks great as a newcomer but there’s always something that can be improved. Here's some advice that might help to increase the conversion on your pages. Let's see:

  1. It looks clean, clear message of what you're selling & an attractive CTA button "Shop Now". It would be great if we can include some images of customers who are wearing your products with emotional expression on the first banner.
  2. People often look for more convincing information on homepages such as promotion, newest collection, etc.. You should take a reference from Macy's, they have done a great job at homepage design.

Collection page:

  1. Collection includes 8 products per page which might increase the time visitors have to navigate on your store. It's better to list at least 20 products per page.
  2. You might want to place a section of "Most Popular Items" on each collection page in order to attract more sales.

Product page:

  1. Showing only trust seals would not help in this digital age, we should place a Product Review section under "You May Also Like" section to build trust with the visitors out there.
  2. I don't see the option to add or reduce the number of items I want to buy in product pages. That small button will definitely help your customers aware of the possibility because some people might not know that they can increase the quantity inside cart page.

Some feedback for your products: From my personal perspective, we should think more about the niche of your products on the market since it could be very competitive to clothes we could find in any store.

That’s all for now, I hope it will help you to increase your sales. It still has a long way to go but keep trying ;)

Hi eking !

I have gone through your site. Though it looks good, there are quite a few things missing on your store which if added can really make a lot of difference to the user experience, conversion rate and your overall sales.

  1. Header -- Have a sticky header and a clear smart search bar to help users locate the products they're looking for. Also a slide out cart, a cart icon with item calculator must have features. Login icon must be there for buyer account creation before purchasing. Also the header is too broad its not at all looking good it must be more sleek. Favicon is missing that should be added for identification of webpage.  Example of Good Header
  2. Footer -- Optimize your footer with more professional and functional look and also highlight your newsletter sign up so people who follow your brand will receive more updates about promotions and sales. There are legal policy pages which are missing in the footer that must be included for authenticity and security purpose

A lot can be done to your homepage to make it more informative & attractive.  Example of Nice Home page

  1. Banners & Branding -- Add hero banner with prompt CTA buttons that syncs well with your store theme & branding. This banner should include info like free shipping, offers/deals like 50% off, etc
  2. Color, Font & Branding -- Over All Text, Font , Paragraph , Alignment , Spacing , Padding etc should be more elegant so that your store looks well-organized, neat and visually appealing. Maintain the same or similar colors and fonts throughout your store to keep your  branding intact
  3. Featured Collection -- Add all the top featured collection on the homepage so users know the type of products you're selling on your store.
  4. Featured / Bestseller products -- Engage your customers by letting them know the bestseller products on your store
  5. Testimonials -- They add to the trust factor as when customers see what other buyers have to say about your products, it makes them more sure about your brand.
  6. Highlight your USP -- What's unique about your brand that none of the other Shopify merchants have? This needs to be highlighted in your store presentation, features & more.
  7. Trust badge on Home Page -- This is important as this helps to build trust and assures your customers that your brand is authentic

Your customer views this page to have an in-depth view of the products and services you offer Example of Good Collection Page

  1. Banner adding on Collection page -- Make your collection page stand out with interesting & creative collection banners
  2. Product filter for easy navigation -- Categorize & filter products by their size, color or type so users find product to product navigation easy.
  3. Product Label -- Product labels like % off, ‘New Arrival’, ‘Sold Out’ must be there must be there for the ease of the buyer
  4. Product Showcasing -- Clear product title and description , high quality images , reviews , related products , color swatch function, grey effect for sold out products , product labels . All these features make your store much more convenient, authentic, easy to use and user friendly.

  1. Features like custom swatches, product zoom in, product reviews, unique product titles/descriptions, cart drawer and a sticky cart with a sticky add to cart and buy now button will make your product page more interactive and user-friendly. Example of Ideal Product Page

  1. Sticky Buy now or add to cart button ,Sticky cart -- A Sticky Cart feature or sticky checkout bar reduces cart abandonment and engages the customer in your store.
  2. Functionality Of Cart Page -- Discount code , Gift wrapping , additional cart notes , delivery date picker, i agree with terms and conditions, trust badges, etc.  for personalizing your customer's shopping experience on the cart page. You to try our all-in-one app, MS Complete Cart Customizer

  1. Social Media Link -- Include links to your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram or any other social media business pages.
  2. Proper integration of Google Analytics, Facebook store, Instagram store, google search console -- These features will help you track and analyze how customers interact with your store

3.Proper setup shipping, taxes -- Set up shipping and taxes options for different areas/countries or for particular products.

  1. Google shopping -- Let your users easily discover & buy your products with Google smart shopping marketing campaigns.

Hope these suggestions are useful for you. Wish you many more sales in the future. If you have any queries, do let me know here.

Good luck!

Thank you to all who have so far replied to my inquiry. All information is so very much appreciated.

I have a couple of questions so far.

1.) How do I add reviews/images of people using my products when I have had zero sales? Do I add fake reviews? Is there an app for that? Do I add stock images and represent them as my products?

2.) As far as the previous posters comment about not adding taxes and shipping - I have. I have added sales tax for New York sales which is all I am required to collect because this is the state in which I live and my store is registered.

2a.) Building off the previous point. Shipping is now set to free with no minimum. Prior, I was using free with $50+ orders. I’m certain my sales tax and shipping is tight.

3.) The legal pages at the footer somehow got deleted when I was reforming the site and I overlooked it. Not an excuse. Just wanted to mention that.

I wondered because they sounded very similar to the other threads I’ve read in this topic :(

What is the appropriate board to post my last questions?

I`m new on this bussines, but I`l try to give my opinion.

1. I`ve tried to add reviews on my website, 2 times, and sellings go to 0. Probably because most of products  had 0 reviews.

2.(a) I`ve tried also to decrease the products price with 6$ shipping, same, the sales go to 0. Now is free shipping, but I increased the products price. It`s woking for me.

3.Google Merchant Center  sent me an warning about missing refund policy on my website.  "Make sure to include a return and refund policy which clearly states how you handle these actions, including all requirements and any timelines. If returns and refunds are not accepted, you’ll need to clearly state this on your site.

For your convenience, we'll automatically review your products again once the deadline has passed, so you don't need to contact us after you've updated your products. ". Fix it :)

hope my english is not too bad .

Re your question 1) re no sales.  Yes, it's a chicken and the egg dilemma for sure.  Without sales, it's hard to show social proof to increase conversions to get sales....  One way you CAN show some activity is if you show Add to cart sales pop-up activity (hint: see my signature).  Another way is to get friends and family to buy your products.  You can also find some reviews for your products from your manufacturer and use them as examples for now, until you build up your own reviews with a review app.  Just disclose where the review came from ideally.
