Heaps of traffic but no purchases?

Hey guys, I’ve owned this business on and off for years however this time around I’ve used a different theme and I’m having no luck.


We are a frozen meal based company, I’m not sure if it’s not good enough on mobile or what? Any advice is appreciated I’m having heaps of people from Facebook but from 500 we’ve had 1 purchase where as back last year I would have tons (new business this time around but same concept)

Is it the theme?

Since the traffic is arriving and you also had a lot of purchases last year but, this time as you have used a different theme as told earlier,It is possible that some features which are clearly missing on your homepage might have impacted the customers in a negative way hence leading to fewer purchases. Following things must be noted:

  1. Newsletter must be added to keep customers updated regarding the latest discounts and promotions.
  2. Favicon- which is quite important is missing.
  3. The logo size should be slightly reduced and placed slightly upwards.
  4. Apart from it, the menu alongwith the cart and login button should be placed slightly upwards parallel to the logo to avoid unwanted white space near the header.
  5. More social links must be added for better connectivity.
  6. Instagram images should be added for brand promotion.
  7. You can also install one of the most popular app Growwave which is all in one marketing platform that helps store owners increase conversions with ease.
  8. Finally, I would also recommend replacing the default search with an advanced search like Sparq which allows synonyms, advanced custom tag filters, spelling correction, and other such features. Visitors with search are high intent users and their conversion rate is higher than normal users.

If you have a successful website previously, I think you can learn a lot from it. 

About this site, the structure is good. But the photography is not so good. Food and Beverage are visually-driven products. Your images need to be literally food porn, people get wet (in their mouth) just by looking at the images.

Try to improve:

  • Hero images: Use high-resolution image.
  • List items thumbnails: Use large, high quality images. Consider using a secondary hover image, which allows people to view more details by hovering the image.



You can consider secondary hover images in other position. 


Also, if the testimonials are real, I suggest you ask for their images and permission to use their information in your store. That would make the feedback more real and convincing.

Even with a good CTR or tons of traffic, if people are not buying then it's not the right traffic. Not all traffic is created equal. The one thing we tell each client is that you can get traffic of all kinds but that does not mean it's the right traffic for your store. Meal prep has become a super competitive space the last couple of hears with Hello Fresh and other places in the space. There is a lot more choices now.


Your product page for each meal could use a lot of work when you look at what brands like Hello Fresh, Pepper Leaf, Marley Spoon and others  are doing. They may not be direct competitors but your customers will think they are. Here are some ways to make your store even better and make people want to purchase.


Homepage Feedback

    1. I would clean up the design of your homepage. Your "How It Works" section has no titles. All sections should have a title.

    2. Change your email from gmail to your domain name to look more professional

    3. Look at what your competitors are offering for meals and see if you need to tweak what you offer

    4. Your About Us page is lacking any information about the company, who you are and who the chefs are.
    5. Consider adding a Featured Product section on the homepage (i.e. Meal Of The Month). Pick one meal and sell why they should order it this week

Product Page  Feedback

    1. Add a section for customer reviews. This helps build social proof and makes it easier for people to trust your brand. Ask past customers for reviews is a great way to get more reviews.

    2. Your product page could use information on allergens, nutrition and other information that people look for when they are trying to eat more healthy

    3. Add a longer product description as this is how you convince someone to buy on your site. Plus it helps with SEO and ranking in organic search

    4. Your product images need work as this should be the star of your product pages but right now they are not convincing me to buy. 

    5. Add a section at the bottom of product pages to show your most viewed/bought meals from the site. This can help increase your average order value

    6. A section on what meals can pair with would be great... what salads or side dishes could I eat with different meals you sell

    7. Make sure each product has 3 - 5 images as that will help someone decide if they want to purchase. Remember, this is the most important part of your product page
