the bounce rate for our 1,500 page site launched 18 months ago but increased from 40% to 90% in 24 hours with a 30% drop in visitors. Any idea how that could have occurred? We had made ZERO changes to the site.

Huge bounce rate increase from 40% to 90 % in 24 hours may 24 2019 on breathing.com and we had changed nothing much of the 1,500 pages done prior to a month or so. Trying to figure out what happened. Any ideas? If google re-indexed it how could it have been so good then dropped so rapidly as the content was and is pretty much the same. Could a template change be part of the answer?

That sounds interesting - definitely a detailed review of your Google Analytics will give you the answer. Check where the visitors where coming from directly before and after the change. It sounds like your website got a lot of new traffic not relevant to the content [could be due to a voucher, competition, influencer campaign, Facebook post etc.] It doesn't however explain the drop in traffic at the same time. Definitely look into your GA review.

Your store looks adorable and you have a defined niche, perfect.

In the case of a lot of traffic and low conversion rate [sales], I'd recommend looking into your ads. Perhaps they are not optimized to send the most relevant traffic.

Remember that Facebook ads are initially good for building awareness for your brand - you can then monetize with retargeting ads.

Make sure to define your audience better, keep experimenting with different interests, different ad objectives, different images, text, CTAs. It's also a good idea to collect email addresses as soon as you can on your website - this way you will stay in touch with your visitors and convert later on.

People rarely buy on the first visit to a new store, so it's important to stay in touch with them. Right now people need 16 different interactions with a brand before they convert, and a newsletter is a great option to stay within their radar, so you're on their mind next time they're shopping for baby products.

Hope it helps.

i like your thinking. I do have analytics but i am not a tech. In own the
company.
1. i am not trusting the present techs. They are not shopify experts. I
see the key words "template" on the home page and no site map. I am
wondering why there are no major "key words" on the home page or any other
page for that matter. Is the shopify "template" mentioned following "key
words" supposed to act as that for the spiders? Is the issue maybe the
template?/
2. this is a 1500 page 20,000+ hyperlink site. We have not done ads per se
but did Google shopping for a while but the ROI was poor.
How do we SIMPLY make it more attractive per your 2nd email suggestions?
3.Someone suggested SEO and Neil Patel but he is very expensive and what
good is it to have someone come to the site if the site is not ready for
them which i think you are implying.
4. But how could the techs have been so far off? This is baffling me.
5.Some say Google changed the algorithms to prejudice against holistic
alternative health sites and that Google now owns interests in drug
companies which could be fake news or not. Could this be true? Mercola and
greenmedinfo which are both rock solid trustworthy alternative sites with
no fake news say they are being censored via google.

https://www.greenmedinfo.health/blog/founders-statement-regarding-censorship-efforts-de-platform-gre...

6. Some say Google recrawled the site, and i say so what is that supposed
to mean? Maybe then the new algorithms kicked in?
7. The increased bounce rate from 40% to 90% and 30% traffic drop was
overnight. 24 hours.
8. Our conversion rate was ok before.
9. Email subs dropped then as well but never were great, maybe 2 per day
average. This seems pathetic for a 1500 page site.
10. to repeat. i am not trusting the present techs. They are not shopify
experts.

Hey,

Don't aim to hire Neil Patel - as far as I know he charges $$ tens of thousands just for an hour consultation. He works with major brands. If you don't have anyone to review your Google Analytics, consider getting it reviewed here:

https://www.rockpapercopy.com/asp-products/google-analytics-ppc/

That's usually the first step in analyzing the issues with the traffic and conversion rate. It will give you answers as to why your traffic and conversion dropped overnight. If you think it was due to an algorithm refresh, compare when it happened with the latest algorithm releases:

Hey, to reduce the bounce rate you have to make sure that your store is able to engage your visitors and convert them into paying customers. For getting more conversions and sales you can target your customers by sending automated emails that help to improve the relevancy and timeliness of your campaigns. You can use triggers and workflows to automatically send messages to consumers after they take a specific action. For some reason unknown to you, they leave without making a purchase but with email automation, you can make sure that this user receives an email shortly after they abandoned their cart, reminding them of what they left behind and asking if they need help completing their purchase. In this case, email marketing automation turns a missed opportunity into an opportunity to build a stronger relationship and make a sale.

You can add web push notification which will help you to retarget your customers anytime even when they are not in your store. This will help you to run your store smoothly and decrease the bounce rate and will capture your visitors and convert them into prospective or paying customers.

To know how you can implement this, feel free to ask.
