Low conversion rate - feedback on my store

Hi Everyone,

I started to sell socks via Shopify and my conversion rate is running below 1%. If I can bring it up to 2-3%, I would be in a very good place. I have been mostly selling through Facebook and Instagram, landing users either directly on the product page or special deal page. Here are more details on store metrics:

Add to Cart: 10.53%

Checkout: 2.69%

Conversion: 0.79%

Out of store sessions.

I would like to love to get feedback on the site itself, prices of the products, and any ways to potentially improve the conversion rate of the site. If you have any recommendations on the marketing side (e.g. places to get good quality traffic), I would appreciate it.

Many thanks for those who are willing to provide me with any feedback. My site is:

Thanks!

Dear jungyubl,

Congratulations for your store!

I’ve gone through your store and found that there are quite a few things missing on your store which if added can really make a lot of difference to the user experience, conversion rate and your overall sales. Here is a page-by-page/sectional review of your site:

  • Add favicon
  • Have a clear header bar to help users locate the products they're looking for. Example of Good Header
  • Add Custom Slider(Hero banners) with Call to Action
  • Mobile Speed Need to Improve, Currently 22-35

knockingspeed.png

  • Do some On page SEO and Index all products at Google
  • Open Social profiles at new tab and replace "powered by shopify" with your brand
  • Human Touch : About you and your business - Highlight what makes you different and personalize your offerings when you write about your brand in a custom About Us section.Example of Nice Home page
  • Add Testimonials at homepage
  • Balancing color, font and images etc. - Maintain the same or similar colours and fonts throughout your store to keep your branding intact
  • Banner adding on Collection page - Make your collection page stand out with interesting & creative collection banners. Example of Good Collection Page
  • Add Promotional banner on collection page - You can show images of featured, bestseller or popular products on the collection page banner.
  • Product page layout needs to improve.Example of Ideal Product Page
  • Do Cart Page Modification : discount code , Gift wrapping , additional cart notes , delivery date picker, i agree with terms and conditions, trust badges, etc. - Personalize your customer's shopping experience with these features on your cart page.
  • Add blog section for traffic

Hello @jungyubl,

I've taken a look at your store. Nice products! I've some suggestions to increase the conversion rate.

1. Add the Home page link at the starting of the main menu.
2. Add favicon to your store which is a small square image/logo that appears next to a web address. Favicon helps to strengthen your brand and add a polished look to your website.
3. Add 'New Arrivals' section to help customers keep updated on new products.
4. Add product reviews as most of the customers read the review before purchasing the product.
5. You can add testimonials on the home page to make the store look more professional.
6. A FAQ would be useful!
7. Try to maintain the same image size while listing all products.
8. Discounts and limited-time offers will help to increase sales.
9. Add About Us page which is a reflection of the purpose and personality of the business.
10. Add more specific product title/url in product pages.
Creating the perfect SEO product title/url can help the search engine understand exactly what it is you are selling and drive more traffic to your site. So try to keep the product title/url unique and more specific.
11. Add filters in collection pages to help your visitors narrow in on the specific product they're looking for and find products they might be interested in based on certain features (e.g. size, color, category)

Before you think of ranking you should ensure your pages are found (indexed by Google). You can submit your store content regularly to all the major engines, or consider using a convenient tool like flare by Mansion Ecommerce. flare automatically detects site changes and verifiably informs major search engines like Google & Bing. You can get your free Google Index Score through flare. Plus! Only flare can submit individual URLs to Google & Bing, allowing your prioritized pages to be indexed first and fast.

Hope this was helpful!

Hey there @jungyubl. Abandoned carts and not so good conversion rates are part and parcel of your eCommerce journey! But its good that you're keeping an eye on it. Here is what I'd suggest you do -

1. Try reaching out to the users who have abandoned their carts - drop them an email and communicate about price drops or a whole new offer!

2.  Can a customer checkout without creating an account? This might be problematic and the reason why there are so many abandoned carts. You can provide customers the facility to checkout even without creating an account.

3. Are you also on other marketplaces like Frugo, Walmart? Selling on Shopify is one thing, and having a presence on other marketplaces is another thing! Maybe getting on marketplaces would help you in having a loyal customer base!?

4. Moreover, its summertime! Let's wait for winters to arrive .. maybe then you'll be able to see your sales increasing?

Hello @jungyubl how do you do? So I went through your store and I like what I saw. However when I run a Woorank assessment on your page - You scored 63 out of a 100 which means it's quite okay  terms of easiness to find.  I see you have Instagram an acebook accounts linked to your page which is good. A Twitter account will however increase your presence on the web and improve you woorank score. What Woorank does is to assess how easy it is for your page/store to come in a search of keywords that relate to your store. So have a Facebook page linked as well, if possible Interest, WhatsApp, Business and even a Google Maps presence - all these will improve your woorank score.

I would like to suggest a product that will help boost your sales and help you understand how your users are interacting and on which products. Our AI shopping assistant helps store visitors to discover, share, and get relevant options on items to buy in your store. You get instant revenue boost, recurring sales and store growth when you offer trusted social recommendations to customers.

You can customize your Rendezvous widget to match the theme, color, and style of your store - and it won’t reduce your page load speed.

Do install the Rendezvous Social Recommendations App and let me know your thoughts on it.

Rendezvous is AI-powered social recommendations engine - enabling customers to discover products on merchant stores and leading to higher conversion rates.
Over 500,000+ shoppers are already using Rendezvous Recommendations to find products from big brands like - Amazon, Macy’s, Walmart & BestBuy.

Hey @jungyubl

I like the brand and company name. There are a few comments I have that can help to improve your store:

  1. what's so special about your socks? I don't think you've done a good enough job of explaining why you created the company in the first place and what is special about the business. What was the problem you set out to solve and how have you solved. If you're just another sock company then there's no reason for people to buy once they've got to your site. Have a look at the example of Warby Parker in the eye glasses space to see how they addressed this to become a massively successful business in consumer
  2. who is your target customer? This isn't explained throughout and although it is unnerving to intentionally cut out some of your audience in favour of a niche audience, it is definitely the way to go. If you identify a niche market (age, gender, location etc.) you can get the tone right on the website and market to them better as well, which will be cheaper for you in the long-term. This will also increase your conversions quite materially
  3. I like your referrals program. How is that working out for you? Do you get many leads coming through and do you know what conversions are through referrers? If their conversions are higher maybe that is the way to go
  4. you don't have a blog but you should. Even if you write shorter peices, you can identify keywords for your niche and target them in content with a view to, over time, getting organic Google traffic through. A blog can also have the effect of building a more loyal fan base which will reduce customer acquisition costs, and increase conversions
  5. even though your conversion rate is low at 0.79% its not terrible. Yes ideally, a 1-2% conversion rate would be ideal, but it is easier to focus on increasing traffic so higher traffic at 0.79% conversion is the same as lower traffic at a higher conversion rate? Getting more traffic is not necessarily going to be more expensive. If you do the work outlined above in point 2. then you should be able to target them more effectively

I see you have reviews through an on-page plugin but overall you don't have many reviews. You may want to consider using the free plan at Syntellio where we would collect reviews of verified customers on your behalf. We show reviews on our site and link back to your site, hence increasing your SEO, leading to more traffic over time, which will lead to more sales as a result.

I hope the pointers are helpful but let me know if you need me to explain anything further.

95% of shoppers read online reviews before making a purchase

Syntellio collects online reviews on your behalf and allows you to share to social media, helping you increase sales and make your store a success.

Hey @jungyubl ,

I agree with the other posters here to fix some of those issues. But right now we can only point out things we see.

There's a lot of the process we can't see.

My advice is to start tracking your data and then make the changes and see if it impacts your metrics. You need to look at it from different perspectives not just conversion rate, but bounce rate, time on page, cart abandonment rate, and product detail view rate at the minimum to understand what can be improved. We also do video replays, so you will be able to collect replay videos of your customers, journey through your website to know who, why, where your customers are dropping off. Time to stop doing guess work.

If you would like, I can provide a free analytics consultation which involves:

  • getting you started on tracking data
  • taking a deep dive into your data: look at where your traffic comes from, what they do on site, why they might be dropping off
  • identifying metrics and areas that could cause issues
  • working together to see what we can improve to bring up that conversion rate
  • at the end of the day you know your market the best, but I can help to provide key insights and a second opinion on what could be improved

If you are interested just send me your email in a private message and we can work together more efficiently via email.

If you have any questions, I'm open to being fully transparent. I'm really just looking for some positive reviews for my app.

Cheers

Hi @jungyubl !

Welcome to Shopify and I wish you good luck!

  1. Clear CTAs - help to show what to do next. Hero banner on your homepage is a key to make a connection with every visitor. You should clearly communicate what your website is about.
  2. Branding - clearly show your company branding. Logo, brand colors, brand fonts - should be the same across websites, emails, and social profiles. A key part of building your brand is making it recognizable.
  3. Social proof - an incredibly powerful sales and lead generation tool.
  4. Engaging images - you need them on your homepage to give visitors a sense of what your business is about. Images help you to tell a story and show visitors what they can gain from your product. For a product website think about how images can convey the value of your product and help your visitors to achieve their goals.
  5. If your website doesn’t have a blog already, make creating one a priority. But if you have a blog, it gives people a reason to keep coming back. Blogs also help improve your SEO because you’re constantly adding new content to your page.
  6. Add a favicon
  7. Try adding SEO related high search keywords in your title and product description so that it will be very easy to market your products and display them at the top in google search.
  8. Homepage designs guides your visitors around your website. To engage visitors you need to work on homepage layout design.  Include trust indicators on the homepage. Homepage content should be strategically decided.
  9. Imagine if you saw something that you quite like in the store, however you want to browse more, get more options, and then choose the best one. That often happens to me, because I am indecisive. That is when Wishlist comes in handy. Since you have a lot of products on your site, I recommend adding that feature to improve the user experience on your site. Besides, if the items on the wishlist have not been purchased, automated emails will be sent out as a reminder.
  10. Social media has become a huge thing nowadays. I highly recommend taking advantage of that and adding Instagram galleries on your homepage. It will help drive traffic from your site on to your account and vice versa.
  11. Implement an opportunity to log in and sign up using Social Media account. We all have accounts at least in one social media. And if I have an opportunity to create an account just with one click, I will do it. having an easier way to Sign in will help you gather customer base. The most valuable thing for a company is the customer
  12. The items on your store are something that will most likely be purchased by one person several times. For better customer retention I recommend using Rewards program by Growave, that will give out various discounts depending on how much a person has spent on your store or how many actions he/she has completed (left a review, shared the site, created an account, etc.)
  13. The items in your store are something that every person will need in their lives. Therefore, I recommend using a Referral program by Growave to give your customers an opportunity of sharing your products with friends and getting rewarded for that.
  14. The sale you have seems to be a nice deal, however, when you make such a big amount off it might devalue your product. People always need to know why you have made such sales, is it a seasonal sale? or is it because there is no demand for it? Does that mean the product is bad?

Instead of giving a discount for nothing, give them rewards for completing certain actions on your store ex. for creating accounts, for leaving a review, for sharing your site, for spending money on your site. It is not difficult for a user to do and you will get so many actions on your site, and you are having discounts anyway.
  15. For adding the functions above you can several apps. However, if you want to get all of them at once just with a couple of clicks, try  Growave.

We have 6 great features -Reviews, Wishlist, Rewards, Social Login, Instagram, Discounts, etc.

There is a free plan available.

Hopefully, I managed to help you. If so, please let me know by liking this post.

Growave is the all-in-one marketing platform that has
- Visual Reviews with automated emails
- Loyalty&Rewards
- Wishlist
- Instagram
- Social Sharing + more

Hello @jungyubl

Welcome to the Shopify community.

I saw the affiliate marketing program you have on your website I think that its a great marketing way to expose your brand and drive potential traffic to your website. However, I have noticed that all your products are on sale and I think some improvement could be made here.

Discount sales adds a sense of urgency. One of the main reasons why people don't buy from a store is because they feel like they can buy it whenever or when sale happens so frequently that it does not urge them to buy it immediately.  One way to fix this is to add urgency by choosing specific products(high margins, products with high stock quantity, etc) and setting an end date on your sales, you can easily add a sale to your store with a countdown timer. This way you can make your visitors feel like they are missing out unless they order immediately. The 'Fear of Missing Out' that they experience, will increase your ability to convert them into buyers.

Aside from that, once you have managed to drive traffic to your website, you should use retargeting campaign to re-engage with potentials who interacted or are interested with your products. Retargeting campaigns allow you to remind customer of your brand after leaving your website and offer the product information they viewed with different kinds of creatives. In other words, the goal for a retargeting campaign is awareness and conversion. You can start by installing the Ako Retargeting app on the Shopify app store. Ako Retargeting is a cost-efficient tool that could help your business increase awareness and conversion. The app helps you get your potential customers back to your website by delivering the most relevant product information to them at the right time, right impression and right cost. You can learn more  about Ako Retargeting here: https://medium.com/@akohubteam/what-is-ako-retargeting-c43bda83143b.

Hope this helps with your business, good luck!
