Hey everyone. I know starting out in the ecommerce industry can be difficult, but I’m having a hard time getting sales.

Our site is
We specialize in pet products towards the ultimate goal of rescuing animals from shelters and and support the cause. We have a variety of products.

I try to keep Facebook ads more product focused by offering specific destination links and also to test and see which products sell.

I did a test of $100 optimized for conversions, and out of 127 people, 12 added to cart, 5 initated checkout, but nobody bought. This seems to be recurring for all the products i test, so i want to say there is something wrong with my site. Can anyone give me some feedback so i can get back on the right track?

Hey, @Dantheman1897

Thanks for reaching out today. I totally understand the difficulty and pressure that you can undergo when trying to get those first few sales to roll into your store.

It sounds like you got 127 ad clicks, 12 add to carts, and 5 checkout initiations for $100? Typically speaking, an average conversion rate is ~2%. This means that for every 100 visitors you get, maybe 2 will end up purchasing. So while it may be discouraging that after 100 visitors you didn't land a sale, it's a very small sample size of data to go off of.  I would recommend looking into our Facebook Ads for beginner's guide to get some inspiration and tips on how to optimize for Facebook.

With that said, Facebook, and Instagram are very popular, but also very saturated and competitive. It may be worthwhile to look into other advertising avenues that may give your products better exposure. For example, you could advertise on Reddit within their pet-related subreddits.

Lastly, we actually have a guide that covers Several Ways to Make your first sale in 30 days that I would recommend executing.

If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

Hi @Dantheman1897

Although I would suggest that 127 people is a very small sample size, I would suggest the following:

  1. Add some social proof with some reviews. Try the app called Loox
  2. The Guaranteed Safe checkout banner every dropshipping store has, you may want to change it up a bit
  3. When you choose color on the drop down menu, the product doesn't not correspond with the color selected, change it so it does

Hey @Dantheman1897 ,

Make your website interactive and maximize engagement on your website. You can engage your visitors by adding web push notifications which will help you in retargeting your customers. They are clickable rich content messages sent to your device by a website or a web app. It can be delivered to your device, mobile or desktop, even when the user is not on your website. It can be used in retargeting with push notifications include browse abandonment, retargeting users abandoning the shopping cart, activating dormant users with offers, retaining users with personalized content and more.

Start giving loyalty points on activities like on signing up, allowing for push notifications, visiting a store, leaving a review. This will help you to entice your visitors and will also increase the number of push subscribers, reviews, newsletter subscribers. A loyalty program helps in increasing sales and increase the retention rate.

If your store is able to engage the traffic coming on your website then it will help you to reduce Customer Churn Rate i.e percentage of customers who stop purchasing from your brand. It will reduce the bounce rate and will boost your sales.

If you would like to implement all these on your store I would suggest you to install It has all the features in a single app and is a fully integrated app. It is all in one Shopify app. Plus you don't need to install multiple apps. You can check it out. I am sure you will find it useful.

Hey The Pawcraft,

The correct order of rearrangement of the elements of the main menu is as follows: Home, Catalog, Hot deals today, New Arrival, FAQ, Contact Us. Some other suggestions of mine for a better store look are as follows:

  1. Only a single currency converter is desirable on the top right of the header instead of using multiple converters.
  2. The header template should also highlight discounts apart from free shipping offers.
  3. The currency converter is not in proper horizontal alignment with the other sidelinks.
  4. More social links need to be added apart from Facebook and Instagram for better customer-centricity.
  5. "Sale" section should be created for all discounted products.
  6. Reviews need to be added below each product for better customer choice.
  7. Instagram images are a must for better brand promotion.
  8. You can also install one of the most popular app Growwave which is all in one marketing platform that helps store owners increase conversions with ease.
  9. Finally, I would also recommend replacing the default search with an advanced search like Sparq which allows synonyms, advanced custom tag filters, spelling correction, and other such features. Visitors with search are high intent users and their conversion rate is higher than normal users.
Check out the features live here.
You can use Sparq free trial for as many products in your store. After the trial period, you can enjoy with Sparqs Free Starter Plan for upto 1000* products.

Hope the store receives a lot of sales through store optimization.

Neha :)

Sparq is a fast and beautiful product filter and search solution for Shopify store owners. It allows store owners to add a custom tag, metadata, or variant based filters on their collection page and upgrade their default search to an extremely fast, more user-friendly and feature-rich search.
