Review my store

6 0 0
Hello guys.
I just started here and I made my store without any graphic design experience or help. I am thinking to pay for a SEO specialist or a good app but first I want an honest review for my store and what exactly I need to ask for as on fiverr is hard to trust anyone and I don't want to waste money on someone who will scam me. I'm looking to start ads and my products are not coming from Chinese suppliers or aliexpress. I don't wanna start advertising yet if my website is not good enough. What do you think? I'm a bit unsure if I should start building social media posts first then ads or work on my website more? I use an app for SEO.
I accept opinions with no offence taken.
Thank you
All the best

This is an accepted solution.

Hi @MillennialHouse ,

Few points which i feel needs to improve in your store :

1. Header is too big and not organised.

2. Need better banner and banner should be full width.

3. All images need better quality.

4. Instgram feeds to be added.

5. Footer needs redesigning and its big also.

Hey Millennialhouse,

According to my suggestion, it's better to first focus on your site and then start advertising as, an incomplete site would drive away customer traffic. So, advertising would not be effective in such a case. I suggest the following points for store optimization:

  1. Instead of writing free shipping on the header right, you can create a template to be placed on the header top for better visibility.
  2. The logo needs to be worked on. Try decreasing its size, so that it doesn't look odd.
  3. Also, the logo alongwith the menu and the side options should be shifted slightly upwards to eliminate the empty space on the site header.
  4. There is a lot of empty space between the products and the page footer on the product page.
  5. Instead of placing the social links below the featured collection, they can be placed below the footer links instead.
  6. Discounts need to be offered to engage customers in a better way.
  7. Testimonials and Instagram images are also required for better brand promotion.
  8. You can also install one of the most popular app Growwave which is all in one marketing platform that helps store owners increase conversions with ease.
  9. Finally, I would also recommend replacing the default search with an advanced search like Sparq which allows synonyms, advanced custom tag filters, spelling correction, and other such features. Visitors with search are high intent users and their conversion rate is higher than normal users.
Check out the features live here.
You can use Sparq free trial for as many products in your store. After the trial period, you can enjoy with Sparq’s Free Starter Plan for upto 1000* products.

Hope store improvement leads to better advertising resulting in a lot more sales.

Sparq is a fast and beautiful product filter and search solution for Shopify store owners. It allows store owners to add a custom tag, metadata, or variant based filters on their collection page and upgrade their default search to an extremely fast, more user-friendly and feature-rich search.

Hi Christine,

Here is my feedback on your store, please note that I am leaving my note based on my eCommerce experience and from a customer's views as well However, at the end of the day you are the one who knows and feels what is best for your business :)

-I agree that the logo has a huge meaning and a marketing asset as well. I do suggest placing it in the middle but in the body of the page, not header.

-the header is used to have the most important message that you want your customers to know, therefore try your best to make it compact and minimalistic.

-I could nor figure out the corporate colors that you intentionally used on your side, I am afraid some are being drawn from the theme itself or the default colors of the third-party apps that you have installed.

-the algorithm of featured collections is interrupted by this slider and the information below

You can have a group of featured collections in one place and close it all up with the slider.

Product page

-use various fonts for description to make it stand out

-make the sharing icons slightly smaller

As for graphic design, I would recommend going for Storetasker .

think that is it for now :)

I did enjoy browsing through your store.

Hopefully, I managed to help you, if so please let me know by liking the post.

Good luck!

Thank you so much. It helps. I will try to fix these

Hi @MillennialHouse!

Congrats on your new store! There is a lot of work that goes into getting a store up and running, and thanks for sharing it with us for feedback. Below is my feedback for your store:

  • The logo needs to be smaller, as it is taking up a lot of space. You can resize the logo by using Shopify's image resizer.
  • Remove the "Terms and Conditions" from the menu. This is better suited for the footer.
  • Move "Free Shipping" to a more visible place. Consider using a banner if your theme supports it.

  • The slider elements on the top and towards the bottom of the homepage needs to have images of the same or similar size. Currently, the different image sizes cause the arrow buttons, along with the other contents, to jump up and down the page. This may inconvenience your customers. You can use Shopify's image resizer I provided above.
  • Slider images should showcase products and should direct users to the product page when clicked.
  • "Shop For" collection needs bigger images. You want to catch your customers' attention.

About Us

  • Center the logo and text.
  • Break up the text into separate paragraphs so that it's easier to read than a block of text.

Shop Page

  • The page is accessible by clicking on the link on the menu, and it leads customers to a page with no content. You can showcase your collections here.

  • Use headers for the questions and normal text for the answers. The page is easier to read when the questions are of a different size or in bold than the answers. It's hard to read when the text is all in bold and in the same size.
  • Add some space between questions for easier reading.

Overall, I like your site so far, and no doubt it will get better as you continue working on it. Also, as @neha-sparq stated, you should focus on building and finishing your site first before driving traffic to it as you don't want to be spending your ad budget on customers who will bounce when landing on your store.

The slider is making your homepage jump due to the difference in image sizes. I suggest you resize all the slider images into the same height to avoid this jumping problem.

On product listing page, The "Shop by" column looks weirds. I suggest you review and consider truncating this seemingly endless list.

Also, you are selling furniture, which is a visually-driven niche. People rely heavily on product images to make up their mind, only 1 product image without magnification is absolutely not enough. When it comes to product images, you need AT LEAST 3 images for each product:

  • Main image
  • "On scale" image: An image that show the product with its surroundings, so that people can quickly estimate its sizes.
  • Feature-highlighted images: Images showing the product from many angles so highlight different features and characteristics of the product.
