Traffic but zero sales, many months of work into...

Hello everyone,

So I launched a couple of years ago (yes years!). I was happy to start slow, as most of my sales have been on designer markets. But now I'm getting to a point of desperation, as I believe have followed many of the advices given here, have read plenty of articles, spent some cash on adverts on facebook and Insta (and thus getting traffic), and yet I have only had 2 official sales!

I'm really lost here, as to why that is. My shop is based in Sweden, though it's all in English, didn't think this could be an issue as many websites here are in english.

Any suggestions as to what am I missing are much appreciated!

Hey Mais Designs,

"Receiving site traffic, but, no sales is a very common scenario". The major reason being"improper site layout". Keep the below-listed points in mind to improve the same:

  • The words denoting the "Free Shipping offer" on the header top should have their first letter capitalized according to the standard English notation.
  • A "contact form" is missing from the "Contact Us" section.
  • "Home" button is missing from the header menu beginning.
  • You can also install one of the most popular app Growwave which is all in one marketing platform that helps store owners increase conversions with ease.
  • Filters are very important for customers in order to identify the correct product from the huge catalog. So, you should look for advanced filter options for your store.
  • Finally, I would also recommend you to try Sparq product filters and search to replace the default search on your store, this app allows advanced custom tag product filters for collection pages, synonyms, spelling correction, and other such features. Visitors with the search are high intent users and their conversion rate is higher than normal users.
Check out the features live here

I hope the visitor traffic soon gets converted into customer sales.

Neha :)

Hi @AlexFdz

Good work with your store :) Here are some things you could consider:

1. Logo: Too blurry, making it difficult to read...

2. Here is how your store looks in my desktop screen:

Untitled.png

Header is long, with a lot of bars (announcement, tools, logo, navigation) piling up. As a result, it's not possible to understand at first glance what your store is about.

3. Shipping costs not shown until checkout. This is the no.1 reason for cart abandonment (https://www.esurveyspro.com/article-shopping-cart-abandonment-surveys.aspx). This info should be in your shipping policy. Example: I created a test cart with Medium Red-Violet Fret Tenate 259.00 kr. Then, after entering all my personal info, I get price for Shipping 200.00 kr, total SEK 459.00 kr.

4. Personally, I would prefer a "clearer" font-family, like sans-serif or serif, instead of Playfair Display or Oswald used in your website. These fonts used are somewhat hard to read and maybe they look less "professional"

5. Your privacy policy does not exist in your footer.

6. In your recommendations banner, there are just photos (different sized photos) & prices of the products, not their title, so you cannot get a "glimpse" of the product. Screenshot:

Besides the above, I would suggest you 2 things to try at first:

  1. Ask your visitors what's going on and what they think of your store. There must be a pop-up survey app in the Shopify app store to gain feedback from your visitors and find out why they are not converting to paid customers. Do you also have abandoned checkouts? You could also survey those customers by email and ask them why they did not complete their order. And
  2. Try to improve the overall look & feel of your store (e.g. logo, fonts, new professionally taken photos where needed*), keeping in mind that you need to engage customers both with your products and your brand / store.

* Example: white wallet on white background https://maisdesigns.com/collections/the-wallets/products/black-white-xalli-wallet

Good luck with your store!

Hi Maria,

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my site. Definitely taking your points on board. The logo, for example it has been a problem due to the theme limitations. Then, about the shipping costs I'm definitely with you, have been trying to make it easier but so far I haven't found a better option through Shopify, it's mentioned and explained in my "shipping" policy tho. And thank you, for pointing out my lack of "Privacy Policy" I recently changed some links in the footer and totally missed to re-include it!
Will also test other fonts, and over all fresh it up. And the survey is a good idea, not sure if people would be put off by it tho.

Although I agree with all your points, I have compared my website with other local websites and I just can't see that these details are refraining every client that visit my website to not buy, is that possible? Have seen much worse websites, that I know are more successful... Anyways, I'll try up anything at this point.
Thanks again for your views!

Hi @AlexFdz

Congratulations on your new store page! Your store looks pretty good! I'm sure based on the suggestions made in this post already, you'll be able to clear out some common errors. There are some other things that I thought you could look at. Adding them here.

If you're not making any sales - I think the best way is to connect with your visitors. This could be in the form of community forums or blogs or just emails. The point is to basically reach out to them and find out if there is something different that they are looking for. You could also add some kind of analytics to your webpage to check at which stage are these users dropping off.

The next thing was in your product catalogue, I missed seeing any social proof and urgency. Something that would catch my attention and drive me to buy immediately. You could relate to this by thinking of a real life store - when you pass by their window, you'll see their latest collections, top offers and bestseller, isn't it? Well, that's the same for an online store as well.

A suggestion here. You could add some kind of stickers or labels to highlight things like trending, running out fast, back in stock, hot seller etc. The Shopify app store is source of some really good Apps that can give your catalogue the focus it really needs.

Do let me know if this is useful for you.

Hope to hear from you soon! Till then, good luck and do stay safe!

Hi @AlexFdz

certainly these points would not prevent all your website visitors from placing an order, certainly not! This is why I believe that you should ask your store visitors and people with abandoned checkouts (do you have abandoned checkouts?), to find out what are their restrains. The survey should be really short and you could offer the respondents a discount code for their next order for their participation.

Wish you all the best!

Maria
