We are a direct business-to-consumer site looking at ways to mail products from Hong Kong to the u.s. Our items are normally individual boxes of garment weight about 1-2 kg.
The usual international couriers such as FedEx, UPD etc are charging usd20-30 per kg which is very much over our budget.
Wonder if anyone can share their experience mailing out of HK? Any recommended logistics company for reference?
Check out InXpress. 5th largest DHL customer and DHL's only global reseller. There's an app in Shopify's App store for presenting their DHL rates at checkout; however, if you're just looking for an account to import your product $8.12 per/kg is our groups rates you could gain access to for free. 1kg: $38.87 (base rate) | 2kg: $52.80 (base rate) - fuel is at 9% right now ($57.55 total charge not including duties/tax).
If you don't need the app, go to http://www.intlshippingrates.com/open-dhl-account/ and "Open DHL Account".
You will get your own import DHL account that belongs to you. You will just need to give your vendor in HK your DHL Import Account and ask them to ship it via your account. If you're looking to sell your products internationally we have amazing rates for exports!
You can call me at 480-405-6390 if you have additional questions.
Hope this helps.
I would suggest you to opt for DHL and UPS. DHL is the most competitive carrier for international shipments from Hong Kong. UPS rates are also competitive. The best option would be to have your own account, continue to ship using that account for some time till the time you contribute some volume. Once you have the volume, you can go back to your carrier to renegotiate your contract and get discounted rates. You can use the Multi Carrier Shipping label app to use your own carrier account for performing shipping.
