Email Recovery for "free checkouts"

Good morning, 

I run some "free + shipping" promos and when customers abandon their cart the order amount shown is $0.00 Shopify calls this a "free checkout" and my store is set not to send automated recovery emails in case of a free checkout. Yet if I open an abandoned order I see very clearly which product the customer was interested in. Is there a way to change this setting without sending recovery emails manually? Thanks.

Christine here from the Shopify Guru team - thanks for your question.

If a customer processes through the checkout to the shipping portion, they will have a shipping charge included in the abandoned cart. If the shipping charge is included in the abandoned cart, you will be able to send a recovery email. This means that if customers are able to get to a point where they are not abandoning the cart before the shipping rates are an option they will be able to get an automated email.

How could we get around that?

 

I'd like to email people to let them know they abandoned the cart as well.
