I’m new to Shopify shipping question

Good morning. I’m in the process of setting up my store. I sell wood signs, crafts and home decor. My question is referring to large items that I would like to set up as pick up only. Is there a way to do this? I am wanting to add everything we make but some items we just can’t ship. Most of the items I have listed already are set with flat rate shipping but I can’t figure out how to list something with a pick up Local only option

Hi @Kay_bear52 

First, you will need to set up a separate shipping profile for the items that you do not want to ship.

In your shipping settings, look for the link to create a new shipping profile:

Give the profile a name, then click the 'Add Products' link.

When the window pops up to add products, search for and add all of the products that you do not want to ship.

 DO NOT ADD ANY ZONES OR RATES. Once you've added all of the products, click the 'Save' button at the bottom of the shipping profile screen.

With these products now in a shipping profile that has no rates, any customer that adds them to their cart will not be able to choose any shipping rates at checkout.

Now to set up local pickup....

Back on your shipping settings screen, look for the local pickup option, and click the 'Manage' link:

Check the box next to 'This location offers local pickup'

Enter the details for each of the sections that appear once you check the box:

  • how soon your customer can expect their order to be ready for pickup
  • Address for picking up the order
  • Specific instructions on how to pick up their order

Then click the 'Save' button at the top of the screen.

 

The local pickup option will now be available at checkout on your site. On the very first screen at checkout, you will see that you can select to have your order shipped or select local pickup.

With all of the above in place, any customer who wants to purchase the non-shippable items will need to know that they must select the local pickup option at the first checkout screen or they will not be able to place their order. 

Also, if a customer wishes to purchase shippable items and have them shipped rather than pick up, but also purchase non-shippable items and pick just those up will have to perform separate purchases/checkouts for each.
