So my business is based in Pakistan and the UK. Since there are virtually no payment options available in Pakistan I wanted to know is it possible for me to use my UK address to be able to use PayPal and Stripe as 2 payment options? Technically, I wouldn't be doing anything wrong since I am based in both countries. If it is possible please guide me as to how I can do this because whenever I go to payment options it lists all of them as "Unavailable in your country". Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You So Much!
Rein here from Shopify. That is a great question!
Firstly I think it is important to note that Stripe is not available to the UK as a payment gateway, the list however of available gateways available in Pakistan here. You can however use Shopify Payments as an alternative as Stripe are our banking partners in that endeavour. That being said, you can review the alternative gateways available to the UK here.
If you are wanting to move your legal presence to UK in order to avail of the differing gateways available to you then you would need to prove your physical presence there. In addition to having a physical presence in the UK, you will also need to provide proof of the following in order to begin the review process.
Since this list includes sensitive documents, please don't send these to me here. If you are able to provide these, since we are unable to authenticate you here due to the nature of the Community Forums you can contact us through chat/email/phone by logging into our Help Centre here. Our teams can then assist with the review process.
- Government issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, etc).
- Valid local registration documents (provincial/state-level)
- Proof of your physical presence in the UK. Our review team may ask for a copy of your lease/rental agreement, proof of orders being shipped from the UK, or other proof, at their discretion.
- A standard UK currency checking account, opened with a real UK banking institution, located on UK soil. Virtual banks, currency services or other speciality accounts will not work for this, it has to be a standard UK bank.
Please note that being able to provide these documents does not automatically qualify you to use Shopify Payments UK. This is simply the initial step in the review process.
Once you've submitted the required documents through a conversation with our specialists, our review team will reach out to you with next steps.
So i'm expanding in to the UK but I myself stay in Pakistan. I do have an office there. Will the address of the office work? Also,
I'm not a UK resident but I do have a company listed in the UK so can I share my Local Pakistani ID card? Would It be possible for me to have both locations in my shopify account- Pakistan and the UK?
1.) You would need to have a significant operating presence including a permanent address in the UK for this to be possible, a forwarding addresses wouldn't be sufficient in a case like this. If the office space you have there is a significant operating presence then that should be ok.
2.) The Pakistani ID card might work as long as you can prove operations in the UK - Stripe might accept it but most of the time they would require a passport or drivers license of the country you are want to have the gateway in, which would be a UK one in this case.
Unfortunately we don't have a list of acceptable docs for Pakistan so can't confirm for you on the type of ID. If you'd like for us to review this for you, best thing to do is to enable Shopify Payments (How To guide here) and contact our support team directly to look into it for you. - Rein
We wouldn't be able to make that determination here. You would need to submit the documentation to our teams so that they can review.
To contact support, you would need to log into the help centre using this link here. Once you are logged in, place a search of Shopify payments into the search bar and scroll to the bottom of the results page. Once there, click the Continue button to move to a live support chat with our team.
