You will want to check VIES to determine if your VAT number is valid. If it is, then please check the following: 

  • Make sure you aren't copying and pasting the number to ensure that there aren't any spaces at the front or the end of the ID.
  • Ensure that you are entering in the 2-digit country prefix before their VAT Number (ex. DE123456789)
  • Make sure your store address is set to the same country as the first two letters of your VAT ID.
  • If it is still not accepting, they may need to wait 24 hours and try again. Please select the option 'I do not have a VAT number' and confirm. After 24 hours you can then try re-entering the VAT ID.

If you're still facing issues after that, please let me know.

I've the same issue. VAT number was valid when I integrated Payment setup but it is not working for billing.

Hi im having the same issue i have a valid VAT number but unfortunately when i put my VAT in tax options its sad verification failed. I got my VAT in January but unfortunately shopify said its not valid can you help me sort this out and thank you very much.
