We are deeply considering moving our entire store operations over to Shopify (POS and online). We are a music store that sells instruments, pro audio gear, etc. Something that is becoming a make or break for us making the switch is the apparent inability to attach inventory to distinct serial numbers. In our current system as you get inventory in, we inventory it all by its serial number, so if we get 5 of the same guitars in they're all under the same product and each one is tightly associated with its unique serial number. That way when it sells in-store, the POS pops up and asks which serial number you're selling, you select it, and it takes that specific one out of inventory. For our web orders, it chooses a serial at random, and we go pull the correct instrument.
The super important part of this is that the serial ends up on the receipt. For the manufacturer to reimburse a dealer such as ourselves for any warrantee repair, the serial number of the unit MUST be on the receipt.
I know the workaround for this could be to just enter the serial into the order notes or something at the time of the POS sale, or order fulfillment, but our store can get crazy busy and the thought of holding up a sale and remembering to always enter the serial sounds awful. Any Spotifu guru's out there that can chime in on this? Any plans from Shopify to add a feature like this? This very well may be the thing that stops us from moving to Shopify.
