Could someone please let me know how it's possible to link someone directly to a product page in their national currency?
eg. for a home page it would be mywebsite.com/?currency=EUR
However when trying this for a product page URL it does not work.

Nick here from Shopify. Good question.
This is something that is definitely possible to do and the team at Shopify has created a helpful guide which shows the links you would need for each currency. You can see the screenshot for these below:
You can see the full document for this here.
Something to remember is that this feature is only available for stores using Shopify Payments. You can see if you are eligible and using Shopify Payments from here.
All the best, Nick
If you are not using Shopify Payments as your payment gateways, the best way to apply multi currency to your store is via a third-party app. Something to note is that using a third-party app will adjust the currency for the customer but the checkout will default back to the primary currency of your store. Let's take a look at some of the most popular multi currency apps in the Shopify App store below:
The document is this one here called Testing your multiple currency set up. The help document has changed since the feature has been upgraded to feature multiple currencies for stores using Shopify Payments now. You can see the guide for Enabling your store to sell in multiple currencies here.
