Shopify vs. UPS World Ship

Hi there, we are making the transfer from Network Solutions Ecommerce to Shopify. We ship over 1MM in goods and use UPS for about 95% of our shipping.

We are accustomed to daily pickups, and our merchandise (wholesale stuffed animals), means we can't do a calculated rate based on dimensions or weight. We basically size up the order and determine how many and what size boxes we will use.

Does Shopify shipping allow for daily pickups and will it allow me to charge a customer a flat rate (15%) but allow us to manually fulfill the order based on each order's unique boxes.

Thanks!

Hey toddunt!

If you stick with the default shipping options included in Shopify, you will have to set up price based rates in tiers i.e. $0-$10 costs $1.50, $10.01-$20 is $3, and continue repeating until you have all potential ranges covered.

For a less labour-intensive, but accurate solution, you can try Intuitive Shipping. With it, you can quickly set up the shipping to be 15% of the order price and then manually fulfill the order in your warehouse with the appropriate number of boxes. Please reach out if you have any questions at all :)

To be honest, you do not need a daily pickup feature from Shopify as once the UPS guy keeps coming up everyday at your home, they will keep coming everyday. With Shopify you can definitely charge a flat 15% for all orders at checkout as shown from the screenshot :

Yes using Shopify's fulfilment option, you can even manually fulfil the order without any problems. In fact you can set up package sizes by yourself. However, if you are looking to speed up the process through automations, you can try the Multi carrier shipping label app where you can define automation rules to always use packaging based on weights, quantity of items, etc.
