So I opened my business account with UPS and the rep told me there may be an additional fee for poly mailers, which the department he referred me to confirmed (about $10 per mailer), because they would require different handling. My questions:
1) Why on earth would anyone use poly mailers with UPS?
2) I thought poly mailers are the way to go because they are lightweight, hence lower shipping costs. When/why use poly mailers then?
Clearly I am missing something here. I get stuff shipped in poly mailers all the time.
UPS charges extra for poly mailers because because according to them, these are used for 'urgent correspondence and documents'. Hence Poly mailers usually go with UPS next day Air or UPS 2 Day air services. One way to reduce cost of your shipping is to use poly mailers for certain products only. You can use normal packaging and Ground services for other products. All this can be achieved using the Multi carrier shipping label app. In addition to Poly mailers, other UPS special boxes like UPS Pak can also be used.
