Hi Bo,

my Paypal account is set to German Language.
And I am not the only one having this issue. I got customer complaints
regarding this.
Only the PayPal express checkout is affected. When using the regular
checkout at the end of the buying process I get a German PayPal Login page.

Hey there, 

 

Shopify shares with PayPal Express which language to use during checkout based on your store's checkout language. If your checkout language is set to English, then Shopify tries to detect the customer's location to tell PayPal which language to display for your customer.

Shopify checks the following information to set the language preference:

  • The customer's shipping address.
  • The country where the customer is located based on their IP address.

If the customer's details cannot be determined before the customer is sent to PayPal to check out, then PayPal will use your store address in your general settings to set the language that your customer sees during checkout.

 

When I tried to check out on your store using an American address PayPal displayed in English, however, when trying to check out to a German address it displayed in German. Everything is working as it should.

Hi Bo thanks for checking still:
- Only the PayPal EXPRESS Checkout is affected. The shipping address is not
entered yet when clicking the Express Checkout button.
- The Country in general settings is set to "Deutschland"
- The language of the Theme (Brooklyn) is set to German
- I am in Germany

I push this button:

Notice the URL containing locale.x=en_US!

I have tried it on three different devices with different browsers (Chrome,
IE, Firefox). in normal mode and in incognito mode.
I only remarked it after a customer complaint. I did not open this thread.
Someone else in Germany had the same issue.
I tried it on two different Android phones with Chrome, Opera and Dolphin.
The result is always the same.
So NOT everything is working as it should.
