Filtering by tags in collection not working

Hi, first post on here so excuse any oversights. I have setup a new page to show a subset of collections successfully following this guide.

https://help.shopify.com/en/themes/customization/collections/featuring-collections-using-link-lists

The area I need help is I want each of the displayed collections to be pre-filtered using tags.

I enter a tag in the Filter collection with tags (optional) box however this appears to have no effect on the results displayed on the collection page. I wonder if the format of the tag is correct, I am using the tag as displayed in the View All Tags list used when adding products.

Can anyone guide me?

Hi there Robin!

Don here from Shopify. :)

This is actually a tricky situation; as the customisation guide you have shared here is actually not supported by us here in Shopify.

This just means you would not be able to get help with putting it in place for your store here from our theme support specialists.

Not to worry, as you can still ask here in our forums (as you have done!) or you can consider hiring a theme Expert like one of the following:

Each of these services specialises in smaller, theme-related tasks like this so would be a good contender if you need some help from a pro!

I would like to just check something with you to ensure that you are adding the tag you wish to use to filter the collections correctly.

You would add the tags you wish to use to the collection link you are setting up in the Online store > Navigation menu as shown:

alt

As long as the tag is entered correctly this should restrict the products from that collection to display only those matching this tag:

Be sure to apply and save any changes you make to your menus otherwise the edits will not be live on your storefront.

Give it a go and if you're still having any issues with this customisation you can reach out to an Expert as outlined above. :)

All the best!

Regards,
Don

Hi Don,

Thank you for your reply and I do understand that the tutorial is not supported.

I have been looking at the tags and please find some observations below. I am wondering if there are actually two problems here?

1. Tags not formatted optimally

2. Tags not functiong from a Navigation Collection

1. Tag for Porsche 356 "pre A" may not be formatted optimally? I use the quotes deliberately but are they and the spaces part of the problem?

2.

2.1 Tag entered into filterr collection with tags field for the entry in Navigation

2.2 Character seperation hyphens do not save

2.3 Mouseover the collection on the page does not display a filter

2.4 After click through of the collection the tag filter is not in the navigation bar. The filter is not selected in the sidebar but should it be?

2.5 When a sidebar filter is selected the tag is displayed in the navigation bar.

Your guidance on this situation is appreciated.

Thanks,

Robin

Hi again Robin!

Don from Shopify once again. :)

Thanks for checking that out and for your detailed reply here.

As this customisation is not one supported by Shopify, you would need to now seek assistance from an Expert as outlined above.

You can browse our directory of Expert Designers or you can check out those linked above who are geared towards smaller, theme-related projects like this.

There might also be some other merchants or some partners here who have had experience with putting this in place that can chip in here? :)

Feel free to ask us anything else you need to know in terms of supported customisations or anything else Shopify-related here or on our support site anytime!

All the best!

Regards,
Don
