Checkout API payments returns 404 in dev store. Need to request payment processing first?

I am trying to submit test a payment through the Checkout API. I am following a tutorial and I'm at the following step: https://shopify.dev/tutorials/sell-through-the-checkout-api#completing-the-purchase

When I call that endpoint, it returns with a status code of 404 and a response of { errors: 'Not Found' }.

I am confused as to whether I need to "request payment processing" for the app before I can place test payments on test checkouts (all of this is happening in a development store with the bogus gateway).

The note at the top of this page (https://shopify.dev/docs/admin-api/rest/reference/sales-channels/payment?api[version]=2020-04) seems to imply that we need to request payment processing first. But is that needed for development purposes?

This is an accepted solution.

Hey @aaryaman ,

Requesting payment processing from Shopify will grant your Sales Channel the specific access scopes / permissions needed to use those endpoints, so yes even for development purposes you would still have to request for payment processing first.
