Desktop MacOS App - Redirection URLS

Looking to implement OAuth in my MacOS Application.

However i need to have a specific unique URL so MacOS know to open my app to handle the call back.

eg "appidentifier://oauth/callback

This is how many apps deal with callbacks.

I have just noticed Shopify specifies these call backs have to "http or https"

Does anyone know a way around this?

Redirect to a web server, then have the web server fire the callback to the desktop app?
