GraphQL Bulk Operations randomly cancelling

A few of our customers are experiencing issues because their bulk operations will randomly cancel. We don't have anything in our code to even cancel them, so it must be coming from Shopify's servers. Any ideas on what to do? All we can do is mark the operation "failed" and have the customer retry.

Hey @BGilbert,

 

Can you provide a few example ids for bulk operations that were unexpectedly cancelled? I'll check our logs for any more information about why they were cancelled.

Let me know your findings! So far I haven't noticed any consistency between large or small payloads for example.

Hi,

 

I currently have the same issue - bulk jobs get status "CANCELED" even though my app has no code to cancel bulk jobs.

A couple of examples:

  • gid://shopify/BulkOperation/104756707430
  • gid://shopify/BulkOperation/84519878739
  • gid://shopify/BulkOperation/112084320330
  • gid://shopify/BulkOperation/55245897806

I have not had this problem until the 13th of October.

Maybe a bug was introduced at that time @_JB, or in which cases will bulk jobs become cancelled? 
Please note that bulk jobs for several different shops have been cancelled.

Hey @Louise_Elmose_H,

Thanks for the examples, I checked our logs and it appears there was an issue on our end that prevented the jobs from completing. In that case the cancelled status is unexpected, so I've forwarded the issue to our product teams for further investigation. I'll post back here as soon as I have an update, in the meantime I recommend treating the cancelled status as an error and retry if necessary.

Thank you for your answer.

I hope to hear from you soon, as I can see my bulk jobs are still failing, retrying does not help.

This breaks the entire functionality of my app, so as mentioned I really hope to hear from you soon, as the app users need the functionality of the app.

Please, any news?
As mentioned I have several merchants using my app, and all they see is that the app is not working. I want to fix the bug ASAP, but I cannot do anything before I hear from you guys.

The alternative is to re-write the entire app to e.g. use webhooks instead of bulk jobs, but that would be a huge task.

 

I am getting quite desperate as you can hear - I hope you will help to keep the quality of the app as high as possible, and as mentioned I am totally dependent on you to do this for this concrete bug.

Hi Shopify and @_JB,

 

I've found out what I want the most for christmas! A clarification on why the bulk jobs are randomly cancelling would be awesome! ;o)
This will enable me to support my app users so they once again can use my app.

Hi it's me again.

I still haven't hear anything from Shopify - I am hoping to hear from you soon Guys?

If not with a fix of the bug, or a cause/explanation, then maybe an alternative solution to the bug, a work around or similar please?

 

I can only think of a complete re-write to use webhooks, which is quite time consuming for my app, so If anyone has a suggestion for an alternative solution, please let me know.

I am trying to get my app working for All the merchants using it.
