Handling bad shipping address

Hi,

I'm working on a fulfillment app plugin and have come accross a use-case which i'm struggling to find a good solution for. We would like to handle a bad shipping address by notifying the shop owner that the order cannot be fulfilled until the it has been updated with a valid shipping address. Reading through the api docs I don't see any way to communicate this clearly with the shop owner that action is required before further fulfillmet can occur. 

Does anyone know if there is a way to do any of the following via the shopify API:

1. Create a notification in shopify that will appear when the user visits their store admin
2. Set the status of an order to "error" or "needs review"
3. Contact a customer on behalf of a store owner
4. Provide address validation on the checkout page itself
 

Any other suggestions on how to gracefully handle this use-case would be very much appreciated.

Hey Jon,

Currently, there's no way you can create notifications in the Shopify admin or provide your own form of address validation on the checkout page. However, you could add an order note describing the address discrepancy or better, modify the shipping address directly using the Order resource

Browser extensions,order-notes and custom customer tag like 'notice_bad-shipping-address'

Aside: feature request that to support@shopify.com would be nice to add things to the timeline , though this sounds like some more suited to integrating with task management services like trello,basecamp,slack,etc.

Order notes like jordan said, there are some apps that do this, or make a feature request for custom order status's to support@shopify.com
