JS BUY SDK + REACT

Could someone possibly direct me in the right direction?...

I want to create a custom store with react and the js buy sdk without using liquid.

Is there more documentation for going about this other than this documentation: https://shopify.github.io/js-buy-sdk/ ?

I just want to have the freedom of creating a custom headless ecommerce site with Shopify cms features (ex: adding products, discounts, etc).

Also - is there a way to redirect my domain to using my custom site with react? Right now, It redirects to a Shopify theme.

Thank you!

Hi @Cal1 ,

Here's a tutorial to get started using JS Buy SDK: https://shopify.dev/tutorials/get-started-with-js-buy-sdk#next-steps

I am assuming you will host your E-Commerce site on a private server and as for the domain redirect you should make that change on your name server. Depending on where you purchased your domain name you should have a dashboard that will allow you to make that change.

You can find more custom storefront tutorials here: https://shopify.dev/tutorials

All the best,

Sam

Hi Sam,

I appreciate the response. I was looking for more documentation other than the one posted.

I recently transferred my domain to Shopify...but wait, would I need hosting from somewhere else? And would I still be able to use Shopifys Cms?

Hi @Cal1 ,

If you want to start from scratch you can develop your own Shopify theme. Check out this link for a starter template: https://github.com/Shopify/starter-theme. Don't go this direction if it's just liquid you want to avoid. Liquid is similar to other template engines and very powerful also gives access to useful variables. If your domain is transferred to Shopify then it will point to your published theme. You can always transfer it out or ask support if they can update your domain records.

You would typically use Shopify JS Buy SDK if you want to use Shopify back-end with some other platform. For example perhaps your Wix site or GoDaddy site now you want to enable Shopify Checkout / Cart and fetch Shopify products you will want to use JS Buy SDK which is a framework to actually use Storefront API. So you don't even have to use JS Buy SDK you just need a private app installed that will give you credentials.

I think you may want to explore custom Shopify theme development that way you can still use Shopify CMS. There are a lot of free themes you can use to get started or hire a developer to build you a custom one. Or get started on your own using the starter theme.

Regards,

Sam

Hi Sam,

I appreciate your response. I just want the freedom of designing the front end while integrating Shopify's buy sdk.

I'm not looking to build a theme with liquid, but thank you for your time!

Hi @Cal1 ,

Then yes your code would have to be hosted elsewhere I don't see any option other than upload your custom theme within Shopify. Don't forget to transfer your domain or ask Shopify support to update your records once you have the IP address of your server.

All the best,

Sam
