Shopify Orders API not updated for 'Returns'

I have set up a request using python to get all orders from my store using the Orders API.

However, on some of these orders, products were removed or added by the admin after the customer has checked out. The customer typically calls in and asks to change the order. 

However, the changes to these orders are not reflected in the data received from the API request. 

How can I retrieve the order data such that it reflects as per the shopify platform data?
