Shopify Subscription APIs - restrictions for payment gateway?

Hi, I'm planning to build a private app that is using Shopify Subscription APIs. I see an article here and this is exactly what I need for my app:

Is this subscription API restricted to only use "Shopify Payment" provider, or I can use any Direct Payment provider/gateway from this list

https://www.shopify.com/payment-gateways/united-states

as for example Braintree or Quick Books?

Hey @Cose,

The subscriptions API requires the merchant to use Shopify Payments as the payment provider (link). Note also that this API is currently only available to custom or public app types
