Shopify downtime when updating via API?

I hope you can help clarify this inquiry.

We're pretty new to shopify and we wanted to maintain around 5000 skus more efficiently. We created a private app to update our product price and inventory in shopify. Will there be a downtime to shopify whenever we do that?


Also, our developer said that there is a 15-sku limit to update the products. Is this really how it is or there is a mistake on how we developed our API?

Could you go into more details about the limitation you face? There is no such thing as a "15 SKU" product update limit with the Shopify Admin API. 


The only limit with Shopify API's that you may be facing is our API Call Limits. If you are using our REST Admin API, you will be limited to making at most 2 API requests per seconds (each update of a product variant - aka SKU - would be 1 PUT request). However if you are using the GraphQL Admin API instead, you would be able to make many more product variant updates ( per second, as the GraphQL Admin API only limits you on the complexity of the request and not how many requests you want to complete per second.
