What are that reasons that a refund's order adjustments can have a positive amount value?

I'm trying to understand order adjustments better and am seeing a peculiar situation. When orders have refunds and these refunds have order_adjustments, the "amount" of the order adjustment is almost always a negative number. However, I've noticed certain cases where the "amount" is actually a positive value.

How can an order_adjustment on a refund have a positive value? This would suggest that the seller is gaining money on a refund, which cannot be the case.

Can someone help me understand what situations produce refunds that have positive order_adjustment "amounts" ?

Thanks for any help.
