Google product listing Error

I am experiencing unusual errors when listing my products to google shopping in shopify ap. Specifically two errors that i just dont understand.

- variants need a Color option (i have most products with no color variantions)

- unknown cant be blank (What does this mean?)

 

Did anyone had the same issue and how did you fix it? I havent been able to list any product since they all get that same two errors.

With regard to the 'variant needs color option' error, this is true of products listed under the Apparel or Accesories categories for Google:

With regard to the "unknown can't be blank" error, I'll need to take a look at your store specifically. Could you share your store's URL here? Alternatively you can reply directly to the email I'm sending you now :)

I have the same problem with 42 products.

  • unknown can't be blank

Everything had been working fine and we haven't made many changes in weeks - it's Christmas! Can you help Genevieve? Store is http://www.smythscountrysports.co.uk/

Hi Darryl!

I just had a peek at your store and that error has seemingly disappeared. Did you figure out what the problem was or did it resolve itself? 

In my experience the "unknown can't be blank" error arises under the following circumstances:

  • When the store has a multi-user Google Merchant Centre account - this can be resolved by adding the account IDs for the sub-accounts associated with this store to the Google Shopping app.

  • When Google modifies the labels for the product fields - this can be resolved by letting us know so we can update our labels accordingly.

thanks for helping. I managed to get around and fixed everything. That "unknown can't be blank" disappeard.

Our shop is having the same issues. Products that I listed and were approved yesterday are now coming back with the unknown can't be blank error too. Would you mind taking a look at our store - shop.convicts.nyc

From looking at your store, it seems that all the 'Unknown missing' errors relate to missing GTIN or MPN entries.

I am seeing the same problem on items, we have a few occasionaly come back as unknown can't be blank.  When I look through all the information they look fine.  I resubmit them and it clears up.  This morning we had over 200.  I have no clue now why all of the sudden so many.  Can you look into it.  My store auracrystals.myshopify.com

I just checked your store and it looks like all errors have resolved since you posted here. It sounds like this was probably a case of Google modifying its labels. Hi Genevieve,

I'm getting the "Variants need a Color option" error on our Google Shopping App. We sell jewelry where a lot of products don't have variants. For example, some of our pendants only come in one size so it doesn't have a variant. How do I fix the color issue if the product doesn't have a variant where I can add a color option?
