Prevent SMS Confirmation when Creating Order

I have an app creating an order through the API. Every time the order is created it sends an SMS confirmation AND an email confirmation, but I don't want to send both. I just want to send an email.

The relevant documentation is the Order object:[version]=2020-04


I'm currently sending the phone number with the order in 2 ways:

1. Phone number is sent at the top level, via

2. Phone number is also sent with the customer object, via


If I exclude #1 above ( and continue to send #2, will that effectively prevent SMS confirmations, continue to allow email confirmations, and still allow me to create (or correlate with) a customer object once the order is created?


It's hard to know whether a change just works for me and my test users or if it will effectively work for everyone.
