Hi Shopify App Store developers,

This is the time of the year when our merchants start preparing for Black Friday/Cyber Monday (BFCM) and the holiday shopping season. At Shopify, it is extremely important that we focus on doing everything we can to ensure that the Shopify App Store is a trusted place for merchants to find the best solutions to help them have the most successful holiday sales season to date.

App reviews are one of the most critical ways for merchants to evaluate if the apps they are choosing are right for their business. It is our duty to make sure the integrity of the reviews system is held to the highest standard for the benefit of merchants and developers who are growing their business on Shopify in an honest way.

On Monday, October 5th we removed thousands of reviews from the Shopify App Store that violated our Terms of Service {https://www.shopify.ca/partners/terms}. We aren’t able to disclose specific information about the methods used to detect reviews that do not comply with our TOS for the privacy of all parties involved, and for the security and integrity of the Shopify App Store. This review removal effort was partially thanks to feedback from our App developer community, and also due to our algorithms and detection methods getting more advanced

Our priority is to create a thriving environment for our merchants and developers alike. As we continue to scale the ecosystem we need to ensure we have fairness for all developers and maintain a trusted environment. We’re still on this journey and continue to make improvements.
