Add 2nd image to Header - Simple Theme

Hi,

New to shopify.  I have programming experience, but no HTML experience.  I would like to add a second image to the header section of the simple theme.  I have added an image to the 'assets' and can get it to show up in some fashion by badly hacking the liquify code for the header.  However, I cannot get the positioning of the image correct.  Basically, I want it to be to the right of the exiting logo.  Can anyone provide some guidance?  I'm a little disappointed that shopify can't accommodate simple edits to the templates without modifying the liquid code manually especially with products like PageFly etc showing what could be done - but I'm such a newbie that that may be a false impression.  Anyway..thanks for any help.

Also, a more straightforward problem.  On the ECON 101 page you can see
beneath the pdf, I have placed a test of bullet and numbered lists.  In
the editor these show up correctly, but on the actual webpage they do
not.  This seems to be known issue.  As per websearch I found that
advice to add:

.smart-tabs-content-block li {
    list-style: outside;
}

to the end of theme.css.liquid.  This made the bullets show up, but the
indenting is being ignored.  Just scroll past the pdf document (which I
used to workaround the problem as the pdf shows the lists correctly) to
see the test lists.  You can see that the bulleted lists are not
properly indented and the numbered lists don't show the numbers at all -
as well as no indentation.
