Adding a "Note" Field for Customers in Checkout

We are currently using the Debut theme. My question is, we would like to add a place for customers to leave notes about their order on the checkout page. How would we go about doing this?

The Debut theme has the option to enable order notes in the theme settings.


Visit the theme editor and check the option to enable cart notes in the Cart page section.


Follow these steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
  2. Find the theme that you want to edit and click Customize.
  3. Select the Cart page type from the top bar drop-down menu:
  4. Select Cart page from the Sections settings in the left side-bar:
  5. Check Enable cart notes:
  6. Click Save.

The answer that @BrianAtWork gave above is spot on! We do have a tutorial page for this as well in case you needed a step by step reference to go along with the excellent screenshots above.


I wanted to also include some other options in case you needed something a bit more complex. In the event you needed to have specific notes added for different products or perhaps needed a more customized option variation for your product pages, you can definitely use one of the apps below:



If your product needs specific customization for each unit sold, you may benefit from the above apps. However, if you're looking for just one order note you'll want to use the order notes box at the cart instead.
